Did I make a good decision?
#1
Hello,

A few months ago I received an acceptance letter for a graduate program 'Master in CS Engineering' at NYU Tandon. However, after a long discussion with family I decided to not continue with it due to the huge tuition costs and living expenses.

Could I have done something to make the tuition lighter as an international student ?
Did I do well or did I miss out (realistic answers only).

Thanks for reading

NYU is a pretty expensive university. It's well beyond the budget for most people on here. Being accepted and being able to afford it are 2 very different things unfortunately. As an international student, what value would a degree from NYU bring to you in your country? Are there any other colleges who would give you the same value?

Without knowing your background, it's likely that you made a good choice, rather than getting in debt over a highly ranked institution such as NYU. It's in the top ranks, but I still wouldn't know if it fits your goals... Here's an example from yesterday on the sister board and I just posted an answer: https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?thr...ree.63163/

Basically... You're asking a question that has so many various variables in play, you're the only one who can make the choice and know if it's "good or right" for you or not. You may want to fill in the addendum and template so readers can get a full overview of your scenario: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

Were you going to pay 100% from your own pocket? If the tech economy was still booming it'd be worth it but with the way things are today it'd be very stressful to attempt to recoup ~$100k within 3 years of staying in the US.

Did you end up going to another uni?

For CS, if you are OK with online vs in person, I would look at Georgia Tech. It might be a fit for you or it might not, but worth checking if you haven't. Good luck!

Your decision to decline the graduate program at NYU Tandon was a thoughtful one, given the significant financial implications. It's important to prioritize your financial health and consider the long-term consequences of such a large investment

I'm at the point that I'm going to start filing criminal charges against people who are looking to do an MSCS and not considering Georgia Tech's OMSCS program.
