Multiple SL finals have changed
#1
I tried searching for a thread about this, and didn't see any past posts that specifically addressed the fact that at least 7 Straighterline courses changed to closed book final exams as of 1/28/16.

I don't need anymore SL credits, so it doesn't bother me personally, but I am a bit upset on behalf of others who may have test anxiety. With test anxiety just knowing the textbook is available if a memory jog is needed can be very helpful.

This came up on this thread:

http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...nment.html

Where the OP found the American Gov final was now closed book.

In that thread I noticed that the following had also changed:

Macroeconomics
Microeconomics
Intro to Philosophy
Intro to Sociology

ANYONE thinking of signing up for a SL course at this point wold do well to double check here:

Online Exam Proctoring Details by Course | StraighterLine

before signing up.

What were the other two that you noticed that changed? The other two listed as after 01/28/16 are actually courses that didn't exist prior to that date (as far as I know):

World History
IT Fundementals
COMPELTED
CLEP: Calculus (75), Precalculus (71), Info Sys and Comp Apps (78), College Mathematics (63), College Algebra (65).
SL: Calc I, Calc II, C++, Intro to Religion, Intro to Business, Business Ethics, Prin of Mgmt, Bus. Law, A&P I, A&P II
Study.com: Principles of Marketing, Microbiology
edX: Intro to Dif. Eq., Linear Dif. Eq.
UND Ind. Study: Discrete Math
APU/AMU: Linear Algebra, Mathmatical Modeling
TECEP: Nutrition
B&M: Far too many!

Yes, you are correct, thanks! I am getting the general impression that SL is going towards closed book finals, maybe over time. That much was alluded to me in a chat with SL in the past, but not how quickly it would happen.

On the other hand, my experience with many of these courses is that many of the final exam questions are verbatim repeats from earlier quizzes. It's a bit of a bummer to have closed book exams, but honestly I've found myself not needing the book mich for the finals regardless, and I'm not exactly studying hard.

That's great! I didn't have that experience with most of my SL courses. They tended not to repeat much of anything from chapter tests or quizzes, and I studied pretty intently. It's probably very hit or miss like any of those tests with large pool of questions. Amplified by the fact that I am over 40 and my recall is slower Wink

So far Cultural Anthropology, Intro to Philosophy, and American Government have all had lots of repeat stuff. Haven't gotten far enough to be able to say anything about either of the economics courses.

Admittedly, I'm one of those "see it once, remember always" types, and since I'm rushing through my SL courses I tend to take the finals within a couple of days of taking all the other quizzes so it all stays pretty fresh in my head.
