Starting a Nursing Career (Considering WGU BSN Prelicensure Program)

Hi Everyone,

I need advice on how to get started with my Nursing Career. Its been 14 years since i was in college and it was not in America and my credits will not transfer here so i have to start from zero. I am considering applying to WGU BSN Prelicensure program. I am confused on where to start. My questions to y'all:-

Are Straighterline Courses accepted by WGU for General Education and Science? If yes, which ones for BSN Nursing?

Is it possible to be accepted in WGU if you are not within the States where the course if offered? I am considering travelling for the Lab Classes. I live in TN and the WGU here does not have the BSN.

Where can i study/practice the assessment test for WGU?

Although there are nurses here, there are a LOT more nurses and aspiring nurses at allnurses.com. Plenty of people at allnurses have experience with WGU - probably more than the entire user community of this site. If nursing is going to be your career, you need to get the input of many, not a few.

I agree with clep3705. Although I've done the WGU BSN, it was RN-to-BSN. featherzz also went through the RN-to-BSN program. Off the top of my head, I don't know of any regular poster here who has gone through WGU's pre-licensure program. Over at allnurses, you'll find a lot of folks who have been or who are in your same situation.

If I may ask a question -- as far as your inquiry on Straighterline, are you asking because you already have some SL credit, or because you want to consider getting some SL credit prior to entering the WGU program? I ask because if you don't already have the credit, I think you'll be better off taking the WGU course instead of the SL course. It will be far cheaper for the motivated individual, since WGU uses a flat rate per term and the WGU course is likely no more difficult than the equivalent SL course.

If you already have SL credit, just apply and see what sticks. If you need an application fee waiver, I -- or any WGU grad -- can get that for you. I do not have any Straighterline Credit at all. I was considering getting started there but if WGU will be cheaper, then i should consider it. I have posted on allnurses.com, thanks for letting me know about it.
