And what about those with plenty of LL COMM credits already? It's annoying to me that they weren't clear from the beginning about mandatory courses ((not to mention "enrolling" me out of the blue several weeks after I just requested more info). I think I'll ask them to take me off their email lists.

It's the ol bait and switch! I guess I cant complain because it is free. However, why do they allow you to select from a list of courses to start with if they are going to default everyone to this one class?
I too will be requesting that I be dropped from their bait and switch "free credit" promo. To be fair, this *MAY BE* a great opportunity for a person just beginning their educational journey.

Well, at least you got a response. I have tried enrolling online, contacting them on their website directly, and sending them an email, and cannot get any kind of response from them.
Also, in spite of things being free, I don't want to have to take a course I don't need (based on their assessment? How can they possibly know what courses i need for a degree plan they don't know anything about?). I really only need an ethics course, the rest of the courses I need aren't on their list (i'm down to very specific courses for my degree plan at this point). Kind of strange how they're doing this. No one else does it this way.
I would certainly do this for my kids when they get to college age and are just starting, however I don't need a communications course. Or a company that doesn't respond. Oh well...

I guarantee you the only reason I got a response is because I filled out the sign up form several times. If you tell them you have 0-20 credits they will contact you. Any more than that and you get no response. I only wanted to take one course in particular. However, they don't let you choose which courses you start with. Hence, this should be marketed to individuals with nearly 0 college credits.

I have a bunch of lower level credits as well. I submitted my transcript anyways and was told I'm still eligible. Very odd.

That's great news! I just don't need any more lower level credits. I think if you don't have credit for the courses they offer, or have few credits, it is beneficial.

Okay, I have now finished the COMM 110 class. It took about 15 to 20 hours of work. Now I will verify if they do in fact offer other courses.
A quick review of the course:
All the tests were straight out of the reading, and the reading was very easy to understand. I honestly just skimmed it and could get a B on most tests. This course involves a good deal of writing though. I had to write maybe 7 to 10 300 word descriptions of various topics. The course also required a 3 to 4 page paper and a powerpoint presentation, but I decided to take a 0 for both of these as together they only accounted for 10% of my grade. All in all, I came out with a B, and finish the class with roughly 15 hours of work. It was an interesting topic, and I honestly enjoyed the experience more than blank studying facts for say a CLEP or DSST test.

They apparently reactivated their alacarte course selection at lowcostgened.com. I posted in the thread below.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Bummer. I need an Ethics course, I would have loved to take it for free. It's 30 miles to my nearest CLEP/DSST center, so Straighterline is my next cheapest option I suppose.
