Devry is making my life hard.

I am paying..slowly but surely. It seems that no level of negotiation will come from their end. They want a 0 balance prior to releasing the transcripts. I suppose they are entitled to that, even if I am a really sweet person lol.

it hurt to ask. the answer was a deep hearty laugh from the person on the line, followed by a firm no. The debt must be a 0 balance before they release my transcripts. no exceptions.

Straighterline assures me that their direct partnership with Excelsior means I will get letter grades. Research on the forum gives mixed reviews though.

Sanantone, are you saying that having a small amount of letter grades could potentially mean a higher GPA?
I don't have very many credits coming in from other schools. When LSU computes my GPA it will be based solely on my performance at Devry and what Excelsior (should I continue through them) grades me on. Again...I'm new to all of this, and you all are pros, so maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Your explanation on what created my high balance at Devry is exactly what happened.

I'm not saying that less grades will amount to a higher GPA. That all depends on how you do in your graded classes/tests. Some graduate schools will require 30+ or 60+ graded credits. The majority of graduate schools will calculate your GPA using the transcripts from all of the colleges you've attended. They won't just go by the Excelsior transcript if you decide to attend there.

Just so you can see what a TESC major in Communications would look like, here's a way to complete the major requirements. I put the two LSU Independent Study Communications classes in there to help you make a good impression. Smile The course prefixes at the end of each class are the TESC equivalencies; UL means upper level, and you must have 18 upper level hours in the major (really, in the entire degree) to fulfill degree requirements.

I. Area of Study: Communications (33 hours)
1. Need Straighterline Fundamentals of Speech (COM-108) 3
2. Need LSU CMST 2010 or Penn Foster Interpersonal Communication (COM-330) 3UL
3. Need TECEP Intro to News Reporting (JOU-110) 3
4. Need DSST Principles of Public Speaking (COM-209) 3
5. Need TECEP Technical Writing (ENG-201) 3
6. Need TECEP Public Relations Thought & Practice (COM-210) 3
7. Need TECEP Managerial Communications (COM-373) 3UL
8. Need Straighterline Business Communications (COM-300) 3UL
9. Need TECEP Marketing Communications (MAR-321) 3UL
10. Need LSU Independent Study CMST 2063 Argumentation and Debate (COM-380) 3UL
11. Need LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone 3UL
BA, MA, EdS, MMT, etc.
83 hours of ACE-worthy credits

If you are really the Geaux Tigers type, you might even be interested in the 15-hour Certificate in Business Communication from LSU. You can transfer in a 3-hour class (maybe English Composition I?), and all of the credits would work toward a Communications degree from TESC (and perhaps from Excelsior as well).
Again, making une belle impression on the graduate admissions committee....

(There are many ways to complete these courses that are cheaper, but since the OP has her heart set on LSU for grad school, I'm mentioning this program.)

I love it! I would be a 3rd generation Tiger (grandfather was a physician, mother is an MSW) if accepted, so wanting to continue the legacy is very important to me. English is not something I need to worry about (I think). Devry said I wouldn't need to take it because I scored well on both of my English AP exams; Excelsior said this also. The TESC plan does look extremely doable. With the exception of the Capstone and the LSU courses you included, are these classes I can test out of? I know with Straighterline I can.

another question. As sanantone stated, my GPA will be based upon every college I attended. Will that mean my gpa will only be based on the Liberal Arts Capstone, the LSU IS classes and whatever my GPA was at devry?

You have an English AP exam score?! That's 6 credits at TESC. Smile English 101 and English 102 for a score of 3 or better. Any other exams?

Biology AP scored a 3 as well
