I need to pass MAT 101 or MAT 102 or something equivalent as a general requirement for my degree
Can anyone recommend the easiest exam or online course which is not too expensive. I forgot almost all the algebra or geometry I ever learned in high school and I would hate to have to re-learn. My forte is English/History, I hate numbers.
I saw TE has a course called MAT 301 History of Math. The syllabus seems to indicate it is history of math and I like that it has no exams, only papers, discussion, but other posters seemed to say it is advanced math....any ideas, suggestions...

Sign up for ALEKS. You can do Prealgebra, College Algebra, Intro to Statistics etc..pretty much all your math class there for $20 a month.

Your best bet is ALEKS. History of Math is all about famous math problems that have flummoxed mathematicians through the ages. If you are trying to find an actual course through TESC for financial aid reasons, they have MAT-105, Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics, that they offer as a TECEP as well. Really, though, ALEKS Intermediate Algebra would get you what you need, at your own pace, without having to deal with a proctored exam. Good luck!

I took Intro to Logic from COSC for my math credit. I hate math, I am horrible in math even though as a pilot I use math daily to keep my butt in one piece. When I was a paramedic I used math daily in my job. But all that being said, I found Logic easier to understand since it is largely word based. I made an A- in the course and COSC accepts it to fulfill their math requirement. I did the 8 week course and it was very worth it.

It just doesn't get easier, faster or cheaper than ALEKS Intermediate Algebra as far as math credit is concerned.

I am learning math through aleks. Love it! Started out with basic math intro algebra and finished that. Now I am doing pre algebra. Still not college credit worthy, but I am learning at my own speed and it is actually fun. They do an initial assessment and then you work on your pie for remaining skills needed. When you pass 70% of the required material they give you credit for the course. Then you create an ACE account and have aleks send them the results. And then have ACE send it to your college for course credit. Don't close your aleks account until it shows up in your transcripts. Now all of this is what I have learned from helpful posters here. Like I mentioned I am not at college worthy level! You pay 20. Per month at aleks and I bet you could knock out your course in no time!!! Hopefully more knowledgeable posters will correct this info if needed! Good luck!!!

I hate to wreck the party, but personally, I found Aleks a huge waste of time and money. Under the format of Aleks, if you miss a question in the various assessment quizzes, they add that topic back to your progress pie, along with a bunch of other things that are related, and you have to "relearn" all of them - even if you already knew the related stuff - which takes a lot of time!
I'd say the easiest and fastest choice is the CLEP College Math. It's essentially Algebra 1 and 2, with some geometry, as far as I recall. The test was fairly easy; I simply had to review the types of math questions on the test, from the Princeton Review, and took their practice test, as well as the Official CLEP Practice Test.
On the other side, if you are fairly good at not making mistakes , and manage to get to 70% of the Aleks course in a single month, you would save about $60.
Of course, the $80 could just as well be worth the time you'll save studying for the CLEP, which shouldn't take more than about two weeks.

I never took any Aleks or DSST math.
But from the math CLEP's I took, I would have to agree with starlinghunter that College Mathematics was by far the easiest. It was pretty much high school Algebra II with a little extra material to memorize. I would highly recommend it if you are comfortable with studying for a CLEP test.
I'm a 19 year old, Software Engineer, who is enrolled at TESC for a B.A. in Computer Science. My bachelors coursework is completed and I am waiting for graduation to roll around. Will start pursuing ALM in Information Technology with a concentration in Software Engineering from Harvard Extension School sometime in the coming year.

I personally liked ALEKS, in less than 6 weeks I completed Pre-Algebra, College Algebra, Intro to Statistics and Pre-Calculus. If you make a mistake and ALEKS adds the topic back to your pie then practice few more topics and request an assessment from the master account. if you get greater than 69.5% they will round it to 70% so in that case you have passed the subject and good to request ACE credit through ACE website. For just about $40 I managed to get 12 credits that you cant beat by any other means. Your goal is to master all those topic that you find easy first, and then start attacking harder ones keeping track of your % completion.
In between ALEKS assignments, I also managed to get 3 FEMA credits that are free. so if you get bored while doing ALEKS -switch gears and get your FEMA done for free.
