12 year old wanting to CLEP test??
#21
BGSU_Alum_86 Wrote:An update to this situation: CLEP just announced that effective January 2014 (no specific date) all candidates must register and pay for their exams via My Account. This applies to all test centers, whether they deliver CBT or IBT versions of the CLEP exams!

Translation- the days of under 13 testing with CLEP are over unless something is done. There must be a way for a parent to create a minor account.

I've emailed the College Board in the past to ask a question and they haven't been the most responsive. I had sent them an email asking if there was any chance they would begin allowing exams to be taken online through a service like ProctorU. I got back a form response that didn't remotely answer what I had asked.

Yeah, I think that's asking the wrong question. They are not about to change the platform but I think there might be a way to create a parent/minor account with little to no hassle!

I don't see CLEP/College Board seeing the need to make any adjustments. If I recall correctly, CLEP was originally designed with the adult learner in mind. College Board already had a market for the SAT program and the AP program, but saw a need for the adult learner who either never finished a college education or never started.

They DO market to homeschooled children- this takes you right to their webpage doing so Information for Parents | CLEP

Here is their privacy policy which explains about the 13 year old issue. http://www.collegeboard.org/privacy-policy/#policy01

I sent another letter today. I hope they'll consider creating a work-around for this.

I know they have received a lot of flak from the test center administrators regarding their new "unacceptable" second IDs because I have heard there should be a new communication sent out to the test centers providing an updated "acceptable" list. Supposedly they only consider making adjustments as a result of communication from outside CLEP -- this means test proctors and test candidates! Send in those emails.

I contacted College Board and received the following as part of their response:
"After the first of the year, all of our test centers will be required to only accept a registration ticket from each test taker. This registration ticket can only be obtained by registering on My Account. If you prefer to wait until after the first of the year to have your student test, we are in the midst of developing an alternate way for students under 13 years of age to take a CLEP exam at any test center. Once that alternate registration process is in place, we can contact you with specific directions."

So no specifics as to when or how the under 13's will register but eventually they will have a way for them to register and test.

Carnation, unless you object, I'd like to copy/paste that over on my facebook page- that's the newest info I've heard.

I don't mind Jennifer.
We need to let people know that there is hope but we just need to be patient.
Thankfully the under 13's aren't in any rush to be completing a degree so we can keep studying in the mean time.
Hopefully College Board will have a solution in place within 5 to 6 months when a lot of homeschoolers will be ready to CLEP out of this year's subjects.
