Straighterline New Proctor Policy Change

Wow, this thread got long fast. I never really liked the idea of Straighterline for myself, personally; but I knew it was an option for those who don't test well. I would have only used Straighterline for courses I could not test out of. The policy of punishing students for finishing too quickly is absurd. Some people might be unemployed or have a lot of time on their hands, so they can devote several hours each day to completing tests and assignments.

This new policy with ProctorU is horrible. With ProctorU, you are forced to grant someone access to your computer and webcam. You have to trust that this person (most likely overseas) is not going to exploit that permission. You have to trust that their is not a bug or an exploit in their software that will allow them to steal files or information from you.

Straighterline also promises you can complete an unlimited amount of courses if you pay the $99 subscription and course fees. Now, if you complete them too fast and you don't make them enough money you will be flagged.

Also, this is breaking the agreement that was in place when people signed up for their accounts.


So far no response by Straighterline. Maybe we can get someone with a DegreeInfo account to post over there so we can get more people to sign up?

I thought "Self Paced" was Straighterline's unique selling proposition? we should all just boycott Straighterline if they decide to use proctors. Might as well go with the CLEP examination.

I don't think SL will care to change their policy. I'm sure this policy is about 8 months in the making. When NetFlix decided to raise their prices they were flooded with a bunch of complaints. Did not seem to sway the powers-that-be.

About the last post. Still Netflix lost a lot of customers with their change and their stock price lowered considerably.
They just recently recovered but because of the new customers as the old ones did not come back.
While I have no Ill will against Straighterline, selfpaced and non proctored was a main selling point.

I myself passed out flyers and put up flyers up at my local college about Straighterline. Even at my employer. Today, I took them all down. I have taken 60+ credit with Straighterline. I will no longer take a Straighterline course again. Total bait and switch to loyal customers. Im at work right now, but once I get home I will edit the petition. Such as adding a logo etc. I will also pass it around so we can get more signatures. I will also message an adviser who helped me at times at Straighterline with my transcripts and tell her I am no longer making that video they wanted me to do about Straighterline.

Edit: Okay, got a friend to post on the sister forums for this matter. Also messaged an adviser about the subjects and petition so they are fully aware!

what do i need to add in the email to the straighterline advisor to transfer credits to ace? just my name and address? or do i have give out my social as well?

Login on your Straighterline Account. Look on the left hand side to Request your transcript. Fill out the information, such as, if you would like to send it to ACE. Boom. You're done!

I wonder if only the Final Exam will be proctored? anyone knows exactly what they are trying to do? I doubt they will proctor all the quizzes, that would be horrible.
