Citing in English comp.
#1
I have a couple of questions concerning the College Composition essays. I know you have to choose a side in the first but do I stay neutral in the second? How much and what kind of citing so I need to do? Any info. or encouragement you have would be great!

Thanks!

Rachel,
I took the exam in July. The first essay is informal and doesn't require any citations. The second essay is formal, requires that you choose a side and you must quote at least twice from the citations provided. A forum member suggested always taking the opposing side and I think that is an excellent suggestion. It's amazing how easy it is to take the opposing side when you don't believe in what you are saying! It's so therapeutic...!!!
I found Clep quotation citing a real pain - you can't COPY - you have to type out all/part of the quotation which really eats up time.
So avoid quoting large sections whenever you can.
Also, practice writing essays under the clock - I didn't and wish I had.
Don't stress the test, but practice makes perfect - practice - practice. And don't forget - don't dawdle on the question portion of the test - it's 50 questions in 50 minutes - read fast and focus on what the question is asking.
Also, check the specific feedback section for test suggestions.
Good luck!
