Instantcert is very helpfull but dosent have tecep questions yet. Any advice?

  Opinions Please!
Posted by: Johanna - 07-16-2006, 03:38 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (20)

I realize that this is a subjective question, but I would like to throw it out there anyway in case some of you have some imput - I need a BA/BS only to be able to get into graduate school (social work). So what I would like some opinions on is whether it is safe to just go with a completely external degree (like Excelsior) or whether it would be better to transfer 78-80 credits to a 'degree completion' kind of program that would give me a BA in Human Resource Mgmt after I put in my 44 odd credit hours worth of work that is their minimum required number to graduate from them. Any thoughts? How will my state university (OSU) graduate school regard an Excelsior degree versus a degree at least partially earned in actual classes?

If you breeze through the IC questions, is that enough to pass the exam?

  German CLEP review
Posted by: Johanna - 07-14-2006, 09:54 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (20)

Hi - I am Johanna, and new here. So much to learn . . .

What is a good review for the German CLEP?

Also, where would I find an exam for a language other than French, Spanish and German (ie. Dutch)?
Thanks, I am learning lots from reading your posts.

  General Anthropology
Posted by: Candace - 07-14-2006, 12:36 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (11)

I just got back from taking the DSST general anthropology exam - this is the 7th DSST exam I have taken (I used Instantcert for all except History of Vietnam War).

I found that there were many areas covered in the exam that were not covered in the flash cards. Especially the breakdown between Australophithecines, Homo erectus, Homo habilis, Homo sapiens (neanderthalensis and sapiens). Additionally, there were several questions on Central and South American civilizations that I was unprepared for.

Just an FYI for anyone else considering taking this one. Regardless, I'm hopeful that I passed!

Good combo-American Lit AND US History I?
Posted by: Criticalthinker - 07-14-2006, 12:20 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

So with plan B a go ahead, I am now preparing to take American Lit for 6 UL hours next Tuesday and US History I.

The topics seem to overlap a lot, and support each other.

I am using some of the links I have found through searching this site to quiz myself in addition to IC.

AL seems doable. I have "The Complete Idiot's Guide", plus, the Norton online Quizzes. I got a "60" on the first Peterson's practice for AL, so I think I should be fine.

However I got a 38 on the first Peterson's US History, but to be very honest, I took it late at night, in a somewhat "happy" state, on a whim...:o

I have since reviewed every question, and am going to do the IC cards a few more times before attempting the other US H I two practice tests.

I have also taken the CLEP practicee tests, and done well on those...basically memorized them.

What did you find the most difficult about the US History tests?

Areas to know well? I would be happy to just pass at this point.

Tuesday will hopefully bring me 9 hours closer to my goal.

Thanks for reading...

Who passed the CLEPS Math Test?
Posted by: Calboy - 07-13-2006, 10:33 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

The Math CLEPS Test is a big subject on this web site and seems to have caused a number of people a great deal of stress.

Here's my question to those of you who have already passed the test. I have never been good at math. In high school I barely passed Algebra - and that was over 20 years ago. As a professional person at work, the use of calculators has further alienated me from working with math problems.

Is this test passable for someone like me? On average, in college I'm a B+ student in all the other subjects - but mathematics is foreign to me. If you have a sense of where I'm coming from I'd like to hear from you. I have three classes left and I’d like to test out of all three and finally get my degree. Math is the challenge.

My plan is to get a tutor, watch videos and use this site.

What do you guys and gals think???

Thanks,

CD

  Here's to your health today

Did the Here's to your health test today. IC is all you need as you may have already read. There were some questions that were not on IC but half of those were common knowledge. The ones that were not covered were easily narrowed down to a 50/50 guess. I could have passed this cold but IC helped me be sure of an A. One question I didn't know was How many calories equals to a pound. I recommend this one for a good first try. I hope this helps. Please feel free to add other stuff I forgot.
