  Essay for Ethics in America
Posted by: ChristaKB - 07-28-2006, 09:19 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

So the DSST exam apparently has an essay portion. Can anybody tell me more about that? How hard is it, and are you expected to use examples from Kant, Plato etc.? How much writing is required?

Thanks!

Christa

  US History II?
Posted by: fondue - 07-27-2006, 05:55 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (41)

I'm taking US History II tomorrow and was wondering if the CLEP Official Guide is really representative of the exam. The reason I ask, I'm able to bang out 70-90% while taking the IC sections, but scored a measly 50% on the official practice exam.

Should I be concerned?

English comp with Essay (I'm about to take it)
Posted by: avi - 07-27-2006, 02:53 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (12)

Is it wierd that I plan on taking english comp with essay early next week, yet I have no idea what the essay requirements are. I dont know how many paragraphs you need, if you need a hypothesis and do you need a closing paragraph. If anyone can give me a basic rundown, I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance to all my wonderfull classmates on IC, especially the wise and helpfull snazzelfrag.

  Taking two in a day
Posted by: LuBee - 07-27-2006, 01:47 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (14)

Hi everyone,Smile

I am new to InstantCert and to this forum. I am studying for Intro to Pysch right now and then want to move on to Human Growth. Anyone take both? Is there a lot of overlap in the test materials on the CLEP?

Anyone want to share their experience with taking more than one CLEP in one day?

  Computer aps. afraid to test
Posted by: armymom451 - 07-27-2006, 10:13 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

I was more than ready to test for information system and computer aps. CLEP. I studied text book and instacert nonstop and felt I knew more than enough to test. At the last minute I went to Petersons site from info given here and now I dont think I'm ready. I scored a 53, 42 and 45. My problem was about 20% of the questions and answers were in abreviated form. Ex. RLTP OLTP MICR DSS. I had no clue to these and had to guess. The other qusestions I knew without a problem. Does anyone know if the actual CLEP test is abreviatated like Petersons is? I'm putting off testing until I know, I might have to go back and memorize abreviations.

  American Government Friday
Posted by: MagicATC - 07-27-2006, 07:42 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (19)

I also will be taking a CLEP on Friday. I have used IC and looked at the Constitution. As long as the other 2 Dantes went good, this will leave me 21 Upper Level credits to go. I will never sit in a college classroom again for my degree. I wish I new about this sooner.
By the way, what is the fastest anyone received 21 Upper Level with no prior knowledge?

  US History I on Friday
Posted by: B2MANLEY - 07-27-2006, 07:03 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

Well, I am scheduled to take my second CLEP/DANTES exam on Friday. I have only taken DANTES Personal Finance so far, and scored a 77 on it. I feel like I am well-prepared for the US History I exam. I have mainly used IC, and started reviewing pinkmonkey.com last night. I am planning to take the Peterson's Practice Exam tonight.

It's taking me a little more time than I would like to prepare. In addition to studying for CLEPs/DANTEs, I also have traditional seated and online classes. I attend a private 4-year college and am just CLEPing some electives.

Next I plan to take US History II, A&I Lit., and American Government. Then I will have to take some time off of CLEPs because of my other courseload. I will have 4 left to CLEP after these.

This site has been great!!!

  DSST Practice Exam--Ethics in America
Posted by: Kiwi Lover - 07-26-2006, 02:14 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Has anyone else tried out any of the DSST practice exams listed on their website? I just took the one for Ethics in America, since I'm taking the test on Monday, the 31st. What a waste of time (I think). Sad

It seemed to me that 80% of the questions were hardly related to the study materials and what will probably be on the actual exam. I was just wondering if anyone else took this specific practice exam, and if so, how it compared to the real exam.

I'm also curious if the same could be said for their other practice exams...that they wouldn't be much help in preparing for the real thing.

Comments anyone?? Smile

Ok, I know I was going to take this test a few months ago, but I have been putting it off because I am taking three classes with Excelsior. To make a long story short, I need to get this test over with, and I need some motivation.

On a scale of 1 - 10, where does this one rate with other CLEP test?
