  Help I lost my...........
Posted by: Straydog - 08-31-2006, 05:59 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (8)

EC publication that lists what type is each EC exam. If it's multiple guess or essay. It's a very small publication and its not the guide to credit by examation. Anybody have this or know where to find it on Excelsior's website? I saved it, but it's lost and I can't find it anywhere.

  Development Psych and HGD

Well,

I took the HGD CLEP last week and got a 49... So close... Anyway.. TESC gives the same credit (PSY 211) for both of these tests and I was wondering if they indeed were pretty much the same test. Should I study the IC HGD and an HGD book? Any tips? I searched and didn't see anything on this. I notices there was a thread were someone mentioned these tests were pretty much the same.

Thanks in Advance

  IMPORTANT Re: EC Practice Exams
Posted by: Karenel - 08-31-2006, 02:51 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

I just found out as I was registering and paying for an EC practice exam that today is the deadline for anyone not registered in the EC class of the chosen exam to obtain one. I have found these exams to be quite helpful and worth the $$$$ along with the IC study material, especially the Ethics exam. Just thought I would share this info in case anyone wants to jump on the proverbial band-wagon...after you register you have 120 days to complete their practice format. Hmmmmmmmm....maybe they have caught on to usRolleyes

Hi-

I am scheduled to take the Intro to Law Enforcement Dantes Exam in 2 weeks and have studied the InstantCert course module extensively for this subject.
Has anyone taken this exam? What tips or insight can you offer that might help?

Thanks

Well I took the CW&R DANTES exam last night. No real surprises. I am definitely glad I supplemented IC with the Rudman book, or else I don't think I would have know half the material. All in all, the material on the test was pretty familiar. For those of you who have taken DANTES exams, you know the format can be difficult, mainly the way they word the questions. This is where I feel that the Rudman book definitely added the most value, as it was formatted in the same way.

I feel like I passed. I don't think I set the world on fire, but I'm pretty sure I at least passed, which is fine since my school doesn't transfer these in as a graded credit anyway.

I just wanted to add some feedback. So to re-cap: If you're studying for CW&R DANTES exam, use the Rudman book and IC, and maybe supplement both with a general reading of the entire period on Wikipedia and I think you should do fine. If you really want to go in confident, watch the Ken Burns videos (I unfortunely didn't have time to do this).

Hope This Helps...

  Study help needed
Posted by: Librevore - 08-30-2006, 01:23 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (6)

Hi everyone,

My husband and I just moved and we didn't find out until we called the phone company that internet service is still one block away. It will be about a month before we can hook up. (I do not know if I can survive this! I am NOT an IC addict, I am NOT an IC addict...)

Here's my question - I've been studying for the accounting exam. Any suggestions on the best materials to continue to study with now that IC/internet tools will be just an occasional midnight trip to Starbucks?

Thanks in advance,
Librevore

Any study advice for Technical Writing?
Posted by: fondue - 08-29-2006, 11:20 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

Does anyone have any study advice for the DSST Technical Writing exam? I'm going to pick up the DSST Technical Writing book but was hoping to augment the book with additional material.

Gee I wish IC had a Technical Writing section. It's scary not having my IC crutch to help me along.

Since I won't get my score for a few weeks I figured I'd better dump my thoughts now. WHAT A BEAR! There were 97 questions organized to give you confidence with a few easy ones then slap you around with a string huge calculation. At three hours this was the longest exam I've taken too date.

Much of the subject matter is included in IC, however I would suggest finding more examples calculating y-intercept, all of the errors, correlation and regression. I felt confident at the 70 mark, but was hit with 10 calculation in a row that left me wondering if I know anything. I even begain questioning whether to use standard deviation for the population or sample. Basically practice, practice, practice using your calculator.

One thing to note, the testing center didn't look at my calculator, which left me wishing I would've bought a better model that would do regression and everything else.

I'll let you know the outcome when it arrives, good luck to those that follow.
