  Tesc/Tecep?
Posted by: Bonechills - 11-04-2007, 05:52 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

Hello,

How do I know what I can substitute for a tecep? I'm working towards a business degree from Tesc and have to take four teceps. I see that there is talk about other courses, so how do I know that tesc will accept them. I'm also not a student at TESC yet. Thanks,

For anyone enrolled at Excelsior, how long does it take them to update your courses when they receive a trascript? For example when you take a clep or dsst, and the status shows they have received the transcript, how long does it take them to update your status. They received my clep results 3 weeks ago and still have not updates my status. Just seems like it is taking them a long time.

Just curious.

What order should I take these exams?
Posted by: WendyR - 11-03-2007, 11:15 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Hi -

First of all, let me say this forum is great. I have gotten so much helpful information the past couple of months by just reading old posts.

Now, I need to take the following exams and from what I've read it appears I should take them in an order opposite of what I was thinking, as some of the material apparently overlaps. The exams are:

CLEP - Principles of Management
Principles of Marketing

DSST - Introduction to Business
Principles of Supervision

Does anyone have any advice as to what order I should take these exams in?

Thanks in advance -

Wendy

Can anyone tell me if CSU Production Operamtions Mangement is upper level for ECE? I know I should wait to find out from my advisor but I was just wanting to know if anyone else might know. I am enrolled at Excelsior going for BGB.

Thanks.

  Took Statistics

I took the principles of Statistics yesterday. I found it very doable. I was so nervous going into it but really, it isn't that bad. Know Confidence intervals inside and out. There were about ten questions that it really came in handy to have the formulas memorized. Know the difference between z score and the t score. Really know probability, the difference of independent events versus dependent events. Know the sample size formula. I thought for sure that I had it down but blanked out when I went to plug it in. I found it very helpful to write down all of the formulas right away ( before you even start.)
If anyone is considering taking this I'd say it really isn't that hard. Smile (I used Instant Cert, Statistics for dummies and the workbook, against all odds, )
I wish I knew right away what my score was. I feel pretty good abouth this one though.

  I'm finished! Just passed Humanities...
Posted by: austinpwrz - 10-31-2007, 08:55 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (11)

Well, I will soon be a college grad. I want to thank everyone here and Instacert. I was able to complete over 2 years of school in just over a year while working full time.

First off, re the Humanities exam - study IC and Peterson's exam (they are harder than the actual exam). I passed with a 72. I felt like I made good educated guesses on some of the questions but clearly I knew the answers. Here is what I can remember:

Shakespeare wasn't that deep. But do know the high-level plots of comedy and tragedies and ppening passages of the most famous plays.

Poets: know the time periods and who might be peers in the periods. A good portion was reading and understanding similar to Analyzing and Interpreting Lit.

There were a few "gimmees" like what movies did Spike Lee direct and what art period was influenced by commercalism ("Pop art").

Walden and Thoreau came up a few times as did Chaucer and Canterbury Tales.

I can tell you that if you know everything in IC and study what you got wrong on the Peterson's exams you will pass.

Now... as for finishing your degree. Really, just do it. You aren't too old, you don't work too much and it's never too late. It can be done and much more quickly than you think it can.

I bid you all farewell and good luck for my journey here is complete. Thanks a million IC and everyone here for all of your help.

  Macroeconomics

I passed CLEP Macroeconomics today with a 65! I would encourage anyone considering this exam, or if you will be taking this exam for your course of study, use Steve Slavin's book, A Self-Teaching Guide to Economics. It is a really good resource and truly prepares you for the exam. I studies with this book for about 2 weeks, and passed the exam today.

  When to CLEP
Posted by: autoequip - 10-31-2007, 12:30 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (9)

I have a question about timing of CLEP exams. My son just graduated HS this past spring and is taking some time off before going to college. After finishing my degree by testing (today if I passed) out of my last few courses I am encouraging him to START his college career with testing. I know a few things about it.

1. Many Universities won't accept general CLEP exams.
2. Almost all require 30hrs resident
3. IT'S WAY CHEAPER TO TEST THAN TAKE A CLASS

My biggest questions are about timing. Should he wait 'till he actually enrolls? Is there an "expiration date" on tests? Any constructive advice will be greatly appreciated.

  Any Excel wizards?
Posted by: cinderly - 10-31-2007, 12:02 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (3)

Almost four hours of searching and tweaking and my spreadsheet's still not behaving. (In my defense, I'm in Day Three of a particularly nasty migraine ...)

My Nth Instance formulas no worky -- anyone good with them?

I know this isn't an Excel Help forum, but the information on those forums haven't been exactly useful, so I'm trying a new tack.

The ultimate goal is to show all purchases for Date X (where date is dynamic and refers to the cell with value =Today() on the summary sheet). Data is pulled from multiple worksheets within the workbook where my summary resides.

Tinkering with LOOKUP to get the purchase relative to the date almost made me cry - I don't know if I'm up for this battle. Help?

(Also, I realized this morning that I now have an answer to "Why do we have to learn this?" if "this" is "Algebraic thinking.")

  A + and Network +
Posted by: johnewton - 10-31-2007, 10:15 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (2)

Hello, just a question from my curious brain...

Are there any plans in work for this website to support those who seek a COMPTIA A+ or Network+ certification?
(or any other related certs for that matter)

If not are there any prep websites that you would suggest for this venture?

Thanks in advance for any feedback provided!
