Was told on the phone that TESC does not accept CompTIA certifications for credit
Posted by: BMWGuinness - 11-30-2007, 03:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (16)

So I decided to email them
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

To whom it may concern,

I need to find out if CompTIA Certifications can be converted into College Credit.
I noticed here http://69.56.204.146/tesc/network.htm that TESC offers a Certificate Program for CompTIA A+ that translates to 32 CEU’s.
Is this applicable If the CompTIA certification has been attained?

I was told to have CompTIA mail the transcript to TESC.
CompTIA informed me that they do not mail transcripts, and the only way to receive transcripts is electronically.

I spoke with Excelsior College and they accept CompTIA electronically through CompTIA’s Trancript Publishing Program.

Thank you,

  Principles of management Update
Posted by: aisha38 - 11-30-2007, 01:13 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - No Replies

Hi guys. I passed this one with a score of 70.

however,, I want to say don't waste your money on the peterson's tests. they were so stupid and waste of money/obvious very basic easy/reason/ out/ daily info you would know/all the other answers wouldn't make sense/ ( i only took the first one though but wasn't happy that i spent the twenty bucks for a 'useless' test) dead in the water. (not like IC) where you are actually 'learning' something ... I didn't even bother to waste another hour to go to the second or third one...

and Sad kinda bad news for this one,,cuz ,, I studied IC really hard again..cuz it kinda stressed me out/ thought it would be complicated/difficult../ but it was one of those... 'luck of the draw' where it wasn't really like what i studied but (STILL USE IC) !!! ( I still think its what gets us 'passing'.) ..but i had a lot of Major guesses,,and kinda don't know what I'm doing.. Hope its right...but (kinda reason out)...I assumed I passed cuz I did study ic i was just shocked and surprised it was a 70. ...

... so that's all on that one... .. just study the IC/ skip the Peterson.:o
GOOD luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

  Business Law Update (I passed)
Posted by: aisha38 - 11-30-2007, 01:04 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (3)

Big Grin

Dearest clep testers,, I have good news regarding the business law..

60-70 of the questions were the scenario ones that were exactly like the instant cert scenarios (the last two groups)...... and I know you guys,, if you've looked at the scenarios just one time its overwhelming and very scary because you would probably get 95% of them wrong like I did when I first went thru them...(and they take forever to get thru the first time around) but don't worrrrry,, just go through them again a few days later...and 'get the thinking' part right... I only went thru them one time,, and was really freaking out.. thinking the worst .. i"m not gonna pass this etc..but I went thru the first set of scenarios again-- only the first 40-50 (again) just to 'freshen' up. ( so just one and a half times total ) sorry (if i confused you guys)

anyways. that's what I wanted to tell you guys. MAke DAMN sure you read those scenarios if you want to pass. otherwise unless you are a daytime lawyer you won't pass. and I want to say,, about the scenarios on the test, they weren't as 'scary' and 'deep' and 7 sentences long like on the instant cert. they were much easier/briefer. BUTTTT the same exact concepts/ scenarios./similar..so right away you'll know the answer..

and regarding the rest of the test,,, I don't remember all that much.. but i did study IC and that was it. I studied IC really hard.

I passed with a 52 ... not the best score..but its a passsssssssssss ahhhhhhhhhhhhh..

so good luck everyone for business law. SCENARIOS is the word.

  Find an ACE-Reviewed Certification Examination

I wasn't sure if any of these would be applicable to College Credit or not, but I know many colleges base trancripts on ACE Recognition

  Apply to Excelsior and TESC?
Posted by: BMWGuinness - 11-30-2007, 12:09 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (5)

I just found the thread below so I'm editing my original post since I cannot delete it.

mickeloaf Wrote:Can CLEP results be re-used to satisify requirements for different degrees from different schools?

For example. Let's say I get a Liberal Arts Degree from Excelsior using mostly CLEP results.

Could I then later use those same CLEP tests for a different degree (let's say a Computer Science Degree) at a different school to satisfy the general requirements?

Thanks!
Mike

ShotoJuku Wrote:If they (the other school accept cleps) the the answer is YES!

mickeloaf Wrote:Thanks for the great news and quick response. I need to finish a degree now very quickly, so I've decided on Liberal Arts.

However, I really need to get my computer science degree for the long haul and don't want to start all over.

snazzlefrag Wrote:Mike,

A second degree doesn't require a whole new 120 credits. Most majors involve earning 30 credits. So if you already have 120 credits, and wish to earn a second degree, most colleges will only require you to earn those extra 30 credits needed for your new major. In most cases, they will also require you to earn those 30 credits in residence at THEIR school.

Some schools choose not to accept any CLEP/DSST credits, period. Others limit the number of credits they will accept (often 30, but sometimes up to 90). So you would need to check with each school to find out their policies in this regard. Don't make any assumptions, okay?

Hope that helps,
Snazzlefrag

I am going to take all of my FEMA exams this week. I have 30-45 credits transferable from my Community College, and various IT Certifications that can transfer to 10-15 credits.

Is it possible to enroll at both schools and utilize the same CLEP/DANTES exams for different degrees? Even more so, utilize ECE, TESC, and other exams for the same purpose?

  DSST Versus ECE
Posted by: never2late - 11-29-2007, 11:26 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (2)

Anyone who has taken:

ECE Human Resources and DSST Human Resources
or
ECE Org Behavior and DSST Org Behavior
or
ECE Labor Relations

Did you find a good deal of overlap between these exams?

I need additional upper-level credit and was thinking about taking one of the above ECE exams if there is a great deal of overlap. I was considering taking DSST Business Law II but it scares the heck out of me.

Currently on my degree plan for my upper level credits I was planning on taking:
DSST Management Information Systems
DSST Drug and Alcohol Abuse
DSST Business Law II
DSST Money and Banking

but am considering one of the ECE exams to replace the Business Law and or Money and Banking.

What do you think?

Guess I should add that I passed the Principles of Mangement with a 78 and just got my score today for the DSST Principles of Supervision and got an 80.

Finished Information literacy in 43 minutes...
Posted by: highlanderburial - 11-29-2007, 07:58 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (27)

I don't know what I was expecting from this one. I took the quizes first and kept getting 100% on them. I missed one question on all 5 quizes, so I just took the final and got an 84 on it.
Then I thought about it.
I just blew 250 bucks on 43 minutes....
I can't think of anything that I have done in my life that cost that much per minute with so little joy!
How long was this thing supposed to take?

  FEMA Credits for Business Majors
Posted by: mlwilliamsiv - 11-29-2007, 07:47 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (7)

Hello everyone. I recently learned that FEMA offers free independent study courses that can be turned into college credit. But what I want to know is will those credits translate into college credit for people with Business Majors. I'd just hate to take all the FEMA classes, pay over $200 bucks to "Credit Bank" just to find out that I can't use any of them because they don't correspond with my Course requirements. Just trying to save time and money.

If anyone can help me on this issue it will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Marshall
