Christmas Shopping Online--Any Suggestions?
Posted by: sgloer - 12-01-2007, 08:04 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (11)

Do you have any sites you like to use in particular when you shop online--any tips or tricks for getting better deals, etc..

Or any deals in particular that you've noticed right now?

My "hot deal" I just took advantage of was on a brand new IBM Thinkpad. Lenovo's offering a 25% off discount right now and you can combine that with a 13.3% off coupon on their T-series (coupon code "USPDECSAVINGS").

  Sparknotes/SparkCharts Study Guides
Posted by: mlwilliamsiv - 12-01-2007, 06:53 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (10)

Has anyone ever used the Sparknotes/SparkCharts to pass a CLEP or DANTES exam? If so I just want to know how useful they are in helping one to prepare for the exam.

I am starting from scratch (meaning I have no college credits at the moment) and am unemployed. I plan on going through TESC for my degree because they accept FEMA credits. My first plan of action is to take all the free FEMA courses online because they are free! Then I plan on taking CLEPS and DANTES combined to earn my degree. I set a goal on having my Associates in Business by June 2008.

What I would like to know is can someone who is majoring in Business give me a plan of action to pursue in obtaining my goal. Such as what CLEPS I should take first and in what order. And what DANTES exams I should take and in what order. I just would like to get a plan of action going so I know how to proceed after I finish my FEMA credits. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to get my Bachelors if possible in as little as 18 months. So I need to know what is the fastest route for me to get there. Thanks again everyone.

From a loyal degree seeker,

Marshall

Passed the Information Systems and Computer Apps CLEP
Posted by: scjakester - 12-01-2007, 02:31 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

I passed it last week, but have to admit that the InstantCert test did very little good. Most of the study questions (I would guess 70-80%) had nothing to do with the actual exam questions. If I hadn't been working in I/T for the last 15 years, I think I would have failed it! But I didn't, so yeah for me!

  DANTES "IBT" Exams
Posted by: ShotoJuku - 12-01-2007, 08:20 AM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (8)

I'm looking for some general info and feedback from those of you that have taken any exams with the "new" DANTES "IBT" (Internet Based Testing) system.

I have taken a few paper-based versions (hate those bubbles but they're untimed) and am just looking for some feedback in regards to time limits, general format and how they compare to the CLEP CBT set-up (pay online w/credit card, option to send scores directly to school, etc.).

One more thing, what is the "code" for Excelsior College?

Thanks!

I'm planning to take CLEP Micro in December or January. but I have no clue where to start or how much time it's gon take.. I really need your help.

If you have a basic knowledge about the subject, how long does it take to get a good(65~75) score?
For example, I've read Principles of Microeconomics(by Mankiw) once kind of throughly. Roughly how much time do you guys think I need if i study 4~5h per day? a month? a week?

and roughly how many questions do you have to get to get 75?

  Lost DSST results...
Posted by: highlanderburial - 11-30-2007, 07:26 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (1)

I got my pass notification from Dantes about Rise+Fall of USSR almost 4 weeks ago. Nothing showed on my ECE transcript. As I am down to 4 credits left, I have a certain amount of angst about 3 credits laying around not on my record. I messaged ECE and they said they don't have it. I ended up having to call the Peterson's 1-800 number and talked to a nice guy who apologized and said that it happens all the time with ECE, Phoenix, and TESC.
They said that they would resend it no charge.
Has this ever happened to anyone else??

Was told on the phone that TESC does not accept CompTIA certifications for credit
Posted by: BMWGuinness - 11-30-2007, 03:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (16)

So I decided to email them
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

To whom it may concern,

I need to find out if CompTIA Certifications can be converted into College Credit.
I noticed here http://69.56.204.146/tesc/network.htm that TESC offers a Certificate Program for CompTIA A+ that translates to 32 CEU’s.
Is this applicable If the CompTIA certification has been attained?

I was told to have CompTIA mail the transcript to TESC.
CompTIA informed me that they do not mail transcripts, and the only way to receive transcripts is electronically.

I spoke with Excelsior College and they accept CompTIA electronically through CompTIA’s Trancript Publishing Program.

Thank you,

We'll see what happens
