  Is ASU UL Down?
Posted by: Captainrekt000 - 10-19-2024, 12:19 PM - Forum: General Education-Related Discussion - Replies (4)

I tried logging in today at 1:00 PM EST but I keep getting an error screen that says:

" Page Error. There was a problem with your last request. You may have tried to perform an action after a long period of inactivity. If that's the case, try going back, reloading the page you were working on, and resubmitting. If not, please let us know what you were doing when the error happened."

Is anybody else having this problem? Or is it just me? I tried clearing cookies and using a couple of different browsers. Same result.

I'm studying full-time and losing any type of time is kind of a pain.

Question regarding minors and a class equivalency
Posted by: Hackingat40 - 10-19-2024, 11:52 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (8)

Hey everyone!

I am on the path for BAS with triple minor PM, MIS, and MGT. I am wondering what are the odds of getting UMPI to let me get a quad minor and add Business Admin? I would only need to take BUS125 to finish out that Minor as well. I would love to have those 4 on my degree.

Also does anyone know if any courses at Sophia cover BUS125? Seems like this is a very easy course from what I am reading and I may have something completed to cover this.

Thanks!

TESU Upper level credits help please?
Posted by: belle - 10-18-2024, 06:49 PM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (7)

Hi everyone <3 I am new to this forum so I hope I do things correctly but please forgive me if I end up messing up...

I'll try to keep it short and sweet so I can spare you all of the lengthy version.  I am in my 20s and I want to be done with my undergraduate degree already.  I experienced a lot of heartbreak and trauma in my life that pushed my degree to the length that it has been pushed to and I honestly just want to be done with it already.  I want to move back to Europe and I have thought out my life there (what I mean to say is, please don't worry about my major being what I want or care about as horrible as that may sound).

I have completed many courses through Sophia, CLEP, and my local community college.  I will gladly list them all if it helps.  I am transferring all of these credits to TESU for their Liberal Studies programme with a minor in Humanities.  I am happy to remove the Humanities part if it means I finish my degree sooner and graduate faster.

Location: Boston, MA (generally speaking)
Age: 27
Degree I want: Undergraduate
No military experience/connection/background

I have been in contact with Patricia Certo and long story short, I am still needing/missing the following to graduate but I have completed everything else:

COM-2090 Public Speaking
SOS-1100 Information Literacy Today
POS-1100 American Government
AOS 18 credits (Humanities content, 15 of these credits must be at the 3000 or 4000 level)
And the capstone

The short version of all of this is, could someone please help me find the most inexpensive quickest way for me to complete these remaining requirements so I can graduate ASAP...?

Thank you all so much in advance and thank you so much for taking the time to read through what I have said here, I cannot thank you all enough for this invaluable forum!!! <3 <3 <3

  Draft Deadline vs. Final Deadline
Posted by: finallyfinishingin24 - 10-18-2024, 11:34 AM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (1)

Today at 11:59pm is the deadline to submit Draft Finals - I finished a Milestone that needed to be completed on Tuesday and it's not graded yet, so I cannot submit my Draft final yet.

My question is - if the deadline for Drafts is today and I miss that, can I still submit a final without a draft next week, and not receive an F in the course?  I'm pretty confident in my Final and would do that if need be, rather than withdraw from the course.

Anyone know the answer to this?  I've emailed my advisor and the professor, but I'm sure today is a busy day for them, thought I would check here as well.

Need an AA in less than 12 months
Posted by: ajcolmer - 10-18-2024, 10:35 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (10)

Hello,

I stumbled across this forum whilst researching whether or not the "9 month college grad" degree hacking program on YouTube was worth the money. I did watch his introductory video where he states that the key is to find a college that you pay for by term, not by credit and to test out of courses.
A little background on me:
I am a HS grad and have worked my way up the ladder to HR at a non-profit Hospice (10 plus years experience). My sister in law (MS degree RN) owns and runs a local health care facility. We have been approached with the opportunity to purchase a similar facility in a neighboring state that I would be the administrator of. The catch is this state requires the administrator to have an AA degree or at least an LPN license. I have neither. An LPN would require not only the course work, but the hands on clinical work, so it cannot be fast tracked. So AA degree it is. I need the shortest, cheapest way possible. I am not afraid of hard work and will but the time in as required. I need to get this done as quickly as possible because either my sister in law or my husband will be the "administrator" on paper (which requires they be in the facility at least 20 hours a week) and I will be the designee, actually doing the work. The sooner we can get that administrator role transferred to me, the sooner they will get those 20 hours of their life back!

From the "9 month degree hack", I found UMass may be my best option to enroll in an AA and test out of courses. Has anyone had any experience with them? Thank you so much!

I am done with teaching, looking to find something interesting to do for the rest of my working life.  I have an interest in accounting.  Don't need to become a CPA, just want to be marketable in some way outside of education.

I have a previous degree in education.  I also have a variety of random courses in education from renewing my teaching license.

I am fairly certain that my previous degree will cover general education courses and electives. For the major courses below, are there certain classes that should or shouldn't be taken at UMPI?  Are there different alternative providers?  I only have 8 courses listed for UMPI.  I am aware that I need 10 courses (30 credits).

Degree plan advice - Impossible to realize
Posted by: hakjack - 10-18-2024, 05:33 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (11)

Hello to everyone

I'm seeking any advice or help regarding an online accredited Bachelor of Science / Eng in a STEM or quantitative field (Math, CS, Eng, Statistics...) or / and cybersecurity. Here's some information about myself:

I'm 22, based in Italy, I've just enrolled Open Studies (non stop), B.Eng. in IT from Metropolia University --> Can do up to 120 ECTS of 240 in total.
I have a full time job as a Cyber Security engineer, and have overall 2 years of experience in Cyber Security. I do freelancing as well. Companies are requesting me to have a degree, for requirement.
Since last year I've started to consume material related to Investment, Trading, and general finance, discovering a new passion.
I felt in love with the topics, particularly to the hard understanding of Trading and financial markets. I basically want to build, at the same time, a dual career in cybersecurity, which I've already started and in Quant/Finance/Trading world.

In the last months I've been really stressed trying to understand what I should do in order to bdo both of these, which type of degree, certification or what else is needed.
After talking with some professionals, they adviced to start a bachelor's degree in financial mathematics, or another quantitative based degree.

I've been a quiet looker and reader on the forum, but right now I sincerely need help, I'm mentally ill.

Your Location: Italy
Your Age: 22
What kind of degree do you want?: Bachelor of Science / Eng in a STEM or Quantitative field or / and cybersecurity.
Current Regional Accredited Credits: None
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None
Any certifications or military experience?: No
Commitments: I have a fulltime day job, but have flexibility being remote. No spouse or kids.
Budget: Ideally less than 6k. In case of a double degree, can increase to less than 10k$ (?)
Dedicated time to study: The time needed.
Timeline: ASAP
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Unfortunately not.

I tried to think on all the programs I was able to discover in so many hours of research by targeting specific areas like Europe, some asian countries, USA, Canada, Oceania and so on.
I searched for competency based, odd ways like top-ups (similar to OTHM), college hacking and everything there was on the community and in other places online.
I called around 15 universities, only in europe to ensure they had or not online degrees and english taught.
I really couldn't find nothing specific for me, which can be done in a reasonable time (I'm 22, getting older...) with a low cost and specific degree.

After it I would ideally pursue the OMSCS from GaTech or another stem master's.

What do you think guys?

Thank you so much for the time spent reading and for any suggestion.

Hi there! I've been checking out this forum for the past few days after I decided to attend UMPI Spring 2025 Session 1, and it's been so helpful. Unfortunately, the school takes a little while to respond and I haven't had much luck getting all my concerns answered, so I was wondering if you could give me a hand.

First, I'd like to give you some background: I'm originally from the Dominican Republic, born and raised there. I finished highschool and one year of college before moving to the United States, so most of my education is based internationally. Earlier last year I started taking classes with WGU Academy to gain admission to WGU without having to take an English test or submit extra documents as I didn't have access to them, and I ended up enrolling for the June 2024 Start Date. Long story short, WGU isn't for me lol. So, now I'm a little indecisive about what the best course of action is in my case:

1. Getting my highschool transcripts wouldn't be very easy and fairly expensive with the translation work + evaluation. So, since I have 29 credits from higher-ed and 8 of those are from an institution in the US, would I be able to complete the 60cr waiver with Sophia classes? Or maybe, should I do the BOG AAS with Pierpont?

2. Also, if I do the AAS with Pierpont, would that waive the English test requirement? I'm trying to find the most straightforward and least expensive way to go about meeting the admission requirements. I was just thinking that by completing the AAS I could save some money and time, without having to jump through platforms and institutions trying to get my highschool transcripts, translating them, evaluating them, taking Sophia classes for gen-eds, taking an English test, etc.

Thank you! I know this is a lot, and I appreciate it so much.

Univesidad Abierta y a Distancia de Mexico UNADM
Posted by: Avidreader - 10-17-2024, 04:12 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - No Replies

Yes, yet another option for people with a very tight budget that speak fluent Spanish and want a college degree.

The UNADM is extremely popular in Mexico because it is 100% free (so expect fierce competition for sign ups), and probably the most talked about public online university in Mexico alongside the UVEG.
The degree offerings are still a bit sparse (but given its popularity, I expect them to add more degrees in the future). Sign ups are usually once a year around late July (classes start every October) and you can't accelerate degrees like in the UVEG. Students mention the degrees demand a lot of time, classes tend to be synchronized in variable schedules, which makes the school a difficult option for people with jobs.

For people without time constraints and don't mind taking 4 years to get their degree instead of a bit less than 3, the free price tag will be worth it.

This school forcibly demands a QR code Mexican CURP number in digital format along with a scanned copy of the highschool degree. It seems like the school doesn't cater to foreigners, so I don't know if they accept foreign ID numbers in liew of the CURP and Spanish translations of highschool degrees.
