TESU BA Computer Science Degree [need advice]
Posted by: cranegameing - 10-25-2024, 11:10 PM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (11)

Your Location: California, USA
Your Age: 29
What kind of degree do you want?: TESU Computer Science BA (possibly an additional BA or AS degree for dual degrees)

Current RA Credits: 40.68
University of California Davis: 14.68
City College of San Francisco Total Credits: 26

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: 50

Certifications: N/A
Budget: $29k in personal savings.
Commitments: Part time work: 10 hours/week. 1 hour morning, 1 hour afternoon every weekday
Dedicated time to study: As much as needed for faster graduation. 31 hours/week -> around 7 hours a day.
Timeline: As fast as it can possibly happen. Ideally by Spring 2025 at the very least for BACS.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I'll take whatever financial aid I can get. Parents are covering for me.

Credits yet to be transferred:
MAT-2700: Discrete Mathematics (3 credits) - SDC
COS-2400: Operating Systems (3 credits) - SDC
COS-3300: Computer Architecture (3 credits) - SDC

*CIS-3110: Database Management (3 credits) - SDC
CIS-3010: Management Information Systems (3 credits) - SDC
*CIS-3200: System Analysis & Design I (3 credits) - SDC

JAPA 1A/Elementary Japanese (3 credits) - CCSF/semester
JAPA 10A/Beginning Conversational Japanese (3 credits) - CCSF/semester

asterisk = waiting for another free exam before course completion

I forgot the password to my old account, but after a lot of progress I'm posting about my current condition now. I think I'm extremely close to finishing the BACS Computer Science Program. But there are a few things I am confused about.

For the Japanese classes, does anyone know if they apply a transfer equivalency for electives? They are RA credits from a community college.

The MyProgress chart for the BACS program only requires me to complete less units for a few categories (i.e. English Comp I or just needing 26.66 credits to complete the Electives portion).

Adding up all the units together puts me around 2 units short of 120, which kind of confuses me because all the classes listed on my spreadsheet would complete the student portal progress chart.

Considering if I pay the residency waiver fee, should I take 9 units at TESU (Info Literacy, Software Engineering, and Capstone) or is it better to take Info Literacy at edX and pass the Saylor Software Engineering exam?

I am also wondering if I complete my BACS program, would I be able to complete another degree that does not take many classes to complete? I've heard of dual CS/CIS or CS/Math. Are there any other good dual degrees to go for?

Current Plan: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing

Considering Accounting, asking for input, please
Posted by: HomemadeZiti - 10-25-2024, 10:04 AM - Forum: Degree Planning Advice - Replies (4)

Hello, everyone. I've looked through the wikis here on different schools and existing degree plans, but I was also wondering if anyone could give some degree planning advice based on my individual circumstances. If I do decide to move forward with a new degree, I don't know what school suits me best. I attend WGU right now and am considering withdrawing from my current program for several reasons, one of which is I'm not enjoying it at all. Anyway, thank you in advance for any insights.

UMPI - Transferring in old general elective credits question
Posted by: JohnD - 10-24-2024, 07:51 PM - Forum: UMPI - University of Maine at Presque Isle Discussion - Replies (4)

Hello,

Right now I have my sights set on getting a Bachelor of Liberal Studies – Management Minor degree from UMPI. I plan to get credits from Sophia and transfer them in. However, I have a question regarding general electives.

Around 15-20 years ago, I took a BUNCH of classes at my local community college. After switching degrees several times, I settled on one and I got an associates degree in a graphic design related field. With this, can I safely assume that these classes would transfer into UMPI and at least fill out all of my general elective requirements since I've completed a decent number of credits? Do credits earned a LONG time ago like this normally get accepted without any issue or should I be taking more Sophia courses to be safe?

One reason why I'm unsure about this is because I don't know how to find out for sure. Everything recommends not applying until you have everything all ready since it takes an exception process to get additional credits transferred in once you've been accepted.

Any help is appreciated and thank you for your time.

  Indiana Wesleyan EDD
Posted by: djo - 10-24-2024, 05:37 PM - Forum: Doctorate Degree Discussion - Replies (4)

Hi all,

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I'm looking for a Doctorate program that will allow me to transfer courses from my completed Ed.S. Educational Leadership, allowing for a shorter EdD/PhD program. I see that Indiana Wesleyan has an Ed.D. completion program 10 courses - 30 credits - 20 months program. https://www.indwes.edu/program/doctor-of-education

Does anyone have any feedback about the program? (I did search, and didn't see anything)

Any other alternative suggestions? Looking for a capstone/dissertation-in-practice in lieu of the traditional dissertation experience.

Thanks in advance,
D

About to finish and going mad!
Posted by: laknight - 10-24-2024, 10:19 AM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (4)

Hey Gang I joined in March I think and y'all have been a tremendous help so thanks

Currently at UMPI will finish in December with a BA in Political Science and minors in International Studies, Business Management, Management Information Systems.

First question of input, I want an MBA prefer a CBE program. Really liked the UMPI structure since I've been able to really move rapidly. However I feel like I could get UMPI's MAOL considerably faster. What are realistic time frames, estimated of course? To give an idea of my pace I've done 27 hours my first 8 weeks at UMPI, that's all upperclass courses. I'm not opposed to getting both MAOL and MBA if I were to get the MAOL first. Doubtful I would go back should I get the MBA first as I anticipate it having the greater ROI.

Second Lean Six Sigma, quite simply put, where, how, who, when etc?

Finnish credit transfer + Linear Algebra Transfer
Posted by: YoooY - 10-24-2024, 08:42 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (6)

Hello guys grateful for all the info on this forum.

I'd like to share my experience transfering Foreign credits from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences into TESU. First of all, (especially europeans) I highly recommend getting as many credits from a Finnish university as possible. The credits are fast to get and all you have to do after is download the transcript from the student portal and send it to ACEI, who will evaluate and send your credits directly to TESU. You can expect a Finnish credit to be equivalent to half a US credit. I'm happy to help anyone out with more details so please ask.

I'd also like to mention that I transfered in Linear Algebra from Coopersmith into BACS at TESU and it came in as UL MAT-3210 succesfully. On the wiki there is a doubt as to whether or not this course is still accepted.

Which course will satisfy my requirements?
Posted by: dimkagord - 10-24-2024, 02:57 AM - Forum: TESU - Thomas Edison State University Discussion - Replies (6)

Hi guys! I used an outdated spreadsheet made by someone, which said study.com's American Government course can fulfill the Civic Engagement and Awareness requirement for my degree. Turns out, the course was transferred in as a free elective, and in fact, as of September 1st, 2020, TESU no longer accepts it for the Civic Engagement and Awareness requirement.

What is my best option at this point? Honestly I don't want to take another course just for this requirement, and people say the CLEP is difficult and not worth it. There isn't a TECEP for this either...No options are good. But maybe I haven't thought of an options some of y'all might suggest.

I understand I have to just bite the bullet and do something I don't want to. In your opinion, what's the best course of action here?

Thank you!

Free Transfer Credit Evaluation at UoPeople
Posted by: Heartstrings - 10-23-2024, 07:33 PM - Forum: Graduate School Discussion - Replies (4)

Right now until the end of October UoPeople is offering free transfer credit evaluations up $340 or 20 classes. I had some problems with the advisor earlier but decided to go forward with them. I decided to get a second bachelor's degree in Health Sciences it will help me with some certifications I am working on. I am also starting towards completing my dissertation in Jan 2025 and decided to go to HAU's MBA progra  one class at time in the Spring of next year. Needless to say my plate is full. The transfer credits seem like a good deal.

Thumbs Down Community College Transcript Issues
Posted by: TPierce89 - 10-23-2024, 08:31 AM - Forum: Associates Degrees Discussion - Replies (5)

I applied for the BOG AAS program at Pierpont back in May of this year, and initially, I sent transcripts from my files which were ultimately rejected.

I then went to my community college and had them send my official transcript to Pierpont. I never heard back from them or received my credits, so I emailed them about this in August.

They replied and said that my community college transcript had "no work with a letter grade to be recorded on it."

I am not sure how to get these credits verified at this point and I don't want to just throw away two years of education credits.
