Not only do they want 92 credits out of the student but they charge outrageous amounts of money. I was looking at their programs in mental health but there has to be a school out there that doesnt require that many credits for graduation of a masters degree.

Yeah- I agree with you totally. For that kind of money you could go anywhere. Since there is a licensure issue involved with psychology, be sure to check and double check your plans. Have you posted over on the distance learning forum? Lots of good help for masters in psych degrees over there.
For what it's worth, I'm hacking away on a master's in liberal arts with a concentration in psychology at harvard- you can choose psych or clinical psych. I love it, but am taking a break to get my nursing degree. :eek: I think Harvard is cheaper than Capella.

They get paid to gather back links for websites. Back links help gain page rank, and that in turn helps a company score higher on search results. Any extra traffic from people clicking on these links is just a bonus.

Hoping Steve can institute that "Can't post links until you reach a certain number of posts" rule. Not sure if Vbulletin allows that or not.

That has to be a long tedious process to sit there and go from board to board posting that crap.

That's 92 quarter hours, and it's hardly out of line. Take a look at the accreditation standards for the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs:

"Beginning July 1, 2009, all applicant programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling must require a minimum of 54 semester credit hours or 81 quarter credit hours for all students. As of July 1, 2013, all applicant programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling must require a minimum of 60 semester credit hours or 90 quarter credit hours for all students."

At $432 per quarter hour, the MS will run you over $38k, which is about the average annual salary for a mental health counselor. You ought to be able to find a less expensive program, but you'll have to go through the CACREP list of programs to figure out which ones are available online other than Capella (Walden is accredited, at $365 per quarter hour but requiring at least 95 quarter hours, so it's only about $4k less than Capella).

Try applying to some of the bigger schools, even if the tuition rate seems high. Those schools may be able to offer enough financial aid to make your cost of attendance quite reasonable.

Thanks for the great info. You know i graduate in a week from a school that does quarter hours and I still have no clue how they function. hilarious
