precal ALEKS

Has anyone here pased it. I was dooing goood and still was failing, and I asked my friend to help and watch me if I was doing it right, he is an electrical engineer we were solving them just like in his precal book but we still failed. I want to know if anyone else has had this problem because I sware we only missed 3 out of 35, but still was under 70%
And its not that he is bad at math were both currently at a university. And he's an A student in calculus and with his help and him double checking me he said I was right...
I want to throw my computer in the lake, does anyone have any helpful advice and not keep doing the problems or class ect. I want to know how you got. The 70%. I'm tired of spending 3-4hrs on the test. I'm asking for help.. my final class for my degree requirement ugg

Never taken precal, (never want to lol) but as you know, sometimes ALEKS has a "way" of needing you to answer a question. I know it can be very picky- and since you've done a few ALEKS classes you know this too. So, don't throw anything at me, but did you hit "explain?"

Aleks is very tempermental, make sure you are entering the answers in the exact format it wants (not how the textbook explains it). If you round incorrectly its a wrong answer. Remember there is no human grading its by a computer. It's so important to become adjusted to its formatting.

Just an FYI. Aleks courses (once you pass interm alg) are a level up, so it you are working on precalc its actually more calculus than alg/trig. If it becomes too much, which it sounds like it might be, try SL's precalc. You will more than likely blow through it after tangling with aleks and its open book.

Can I interrupt this thread to ask Bric about this? My son is JUST finally finishing College Algebra. He should be done by day 1 of this school year. He'll be in 11th grade, and so I have 2 more full years with him. I would like him to take either precal or trig this year, and then calculus 1 and 2 on a cc campus for 12th grade. Which of the 2 ALEKS courses is better? I know people say they are the same thing (cuz believe me I've asked a lot), and since I've not taken either, I seriously just flipped a coin. But....your comment was the first one I noticed that kind of addressed this. You seem to have some insight, would you mind suggesting one or the other?

Just my $.02 opinion. I've been using Mathtutordvd.com Pre-calc set and am finding it to be wonderful! I took Trig in high school and College Algebra, but it has been 18+ years. I haven't signed up, but for 19.95 / mo you can access all of his videos. I think he has some stuff on youtube as well. I just "liked" him on facebook and saw the youtube info, but haven't checked any of them out.

I have no personal interest, just find this guy and his teaching method so easy to understand.

Definitely precalculus; it delves deeper into algebra and trig concepts/problems. Ask him to take his time on the material. Once he is comfortable with and understands the building concepts I feel he will have a great foundation for calculus. Also, I think its a great idea to take the calculus series at cc campus; it is a much a better learning atmosphere, especially for math. He can get as in depth as necessary with the professor and have full access to the math lab and tutors.

To complement aleks precalculus here is the link to a website I use for practice. It's also interactive and follows the textbook chapters. I was introduced to this site while at middlesex county college and still use it for all things math. It is a wonderful practice site for pearsons math texts.

FYI, I did pass the assessment, so it's possible. But my score was a LOT lower than I thought I'd gotten correct.

I literally did the Stats assessment for the 10th time and FINALLY got 70 percent, even an athiest like me is thanking the lord right now

Just make sure his teacher speaks English well. I struggled to understand my teachers at USF in math, science and engineering classes.

yeah, asia's destroying us in the STEM department, seems less and less science, tech, engineering, math geniuses are western.
