online DHSc, NO Dissertation or Capstone, EVMS?
#1
After looking through this forum, seems the one DHSc w/o dissertation or capstone is at EVMS. Anyone know any others? I am a NP, the doctorate program for PA's wouldn't apply.
If you have been through the EVMS program and have feedback, would be great to post as well , thank you

I was doing the program , it’s very pricey. I am on pause right now. I will say the work is crazy and getting into the program is competitive. Average work load involves 40-50 page paper per class and a ton of reading with weekly quizzes and tests on material. You can’t skip ahead of your cohort you move together through classes. Semesters are long so don’t expect 7/8 week classes , average class is 15-16 weeks.

I've never attended EVMS, but the curriculum is very business focused. You might as well attend a DHA program for less. If you saw my thread, the DHSc technically does have a capstone hidden in one of the courses. In the catalog, Oklahoma State University's program doesn’t have a capstone or dissertation, but the Graduate Medical Education Seminar is called a capstone. I do not know why because it appears to be the same as all the other required seminars. I haven't seen any evidence of there being a culminating project.

EVMS Capstone

Leading Innovation

Increasingly complex environments require a commitment to developing innovative solutions to address changing systems and evolving needs. This course will examine concepts and case studies of innovation in a variety of organizations, along with the tools and strategies necessary to promote effective change through discovery and networking. Students will apply information learned throughout the program to develop an innovative proposal for their place of employment or for an organization they aspire to work for.

If you are an NP, take a look at this....
It has several specializations.

There is a "thesis" requirement, but from what I have seen, the average length puts it more in the realm of a capstone paper.

Curious why you are not interested in the DNP. The DMSc is the terminal doctorate for PAs, not NPs. I hold both licenses and was accepted to a DMSc but decided on the DHA at the Virginia University of Lynchburg (VUL), a TRACS-accredited HBCU school. I'm not Black, I am a Heinz 57 military veteran with employer tuition assistance, and it was one of the most inclusive schools I have ever attended. The program was outstanding, but unfortunately, the school is under academic warning with the accreditor. I believe this will be fully resolved next year so wait and see. If you want to teach at a university, I recommend a regionally accredited university. I think you will get more mileage from an RA doctorate than an NA doctorate. I understand not wanting a nursing doctorate after becoming an NP. It really is a waste of time unless you add another specialty. I took 4 DNP courses, and it was a nauseating experience. I have no regrets about attending VUL and have applied much of what I have learned to my business practice. If I do decide to teach, the Ed.D in nursing education at ACE appeals to me. Teaching really is a calling if you can survive on the pay: https://ace.edu/degree-programs/doctoral...education/

The OP was in a DHSc program, not a DMSc. However, Northeastern's DMSc program is open to those who are not PAs. I haven't looked at the tuition for this program, but Northeastern is not cheap. I do like the revamped curriculum. They have concentrations that might appeal to those who don't want to only study healthcare administration. Most master's and doctoral programs in health science are practically healthcare administration programs.

There's really no reason to go to VUL now that the Oklahoma State University program exists. This isn't the first time VUL has had accreditation issues. For some reason, they can't get rid of their corrupt president, who had them under FBI investigation when she held another administrative position with the school.

I would recommend Oklahoma state university DHA over Virginia university of Lynchburg anyday. I am a graduate of VUL and I will say after attending EVMS and I’m in another doctoral program right now I will say VUL just feels like a low level masters program the work is not challenging besides the research practicum but that’s more due to the professor who is a stickler for what she wants but I heard she lightened up after the first two cohorts due to complaints which is BS. I will say it’s sad when your whole graduation is over 100 doctoral students , 8 masters level students , and 4 undergraduate students. That should be red flags.

I was shocked that they started having financial problems after they started offering the cash cow DHA program. I would have thought that had made them more financially secure. Some former and current VUL employees have accused the president of stealing funds and engaging in nepotism. Aside from VUL not being regionally accredited, I wouldn't consider them an option until they remove the president. The school might never be stable until they replace the leadership.

I agree with both of you, however VUL is currently 10,000 cheaper than OK State. Despite being RA and reasonably priced, unfortunately I feel that will mean that unknowing students will continue to pick the cheaper program.
