Hello. I am new to this site and very excited after all that I have read about IC. I have 48 credits from Fairleigh Dickinson University back in 1988-1990 that have been just sitting there and FINALLY decided to do something about it so I had them transferred to Thomas Edison. I found out about CLEP and DANTES exams online and took my first CLEP exam last week in College Mathematics and passed with a 67. I wanted to find another study format to make life a little easier than using multiple books which is what I did with Math so I found the IC site and just signed up for my first month. I have signed up to take Western Civ II in the next few weeks(waiting for confirmaiton letter with date) and then US History I. I am hoping the IC program will make the studying process more simplified and after reading many of the posts on here, I think that will be the case. I plan on taking 57 credits in a variety of CLEP and DANTES exams towards a BA in History...any advice would be most helpful to this newbie on the forum...

Welcome!! It certainly sounds like you have done your research and have a good idea of what you need to do to complete your degree. Since you are an IC member you have access to 'Specific Exam Feedback' which is an absolute gold mine of information. Each exam has feedback from people who just took the exam and they share tips on what to focus on-- and many are very generous and include their study sheet with their post. After a few exams you will get your "studying style" down to a system and will find what works for you. Some folks do well just studying the IC flashcards-- other folks need additional resources to see the information in context and learn better that way. The other resource that I have found extremely helpful is the free Peterson practice tests. You can find how to access them at this website. You have definitely found a great forum to help you finish your degree in the most time efficient way possible!

Welcome to IC! I joined about a year ago, and have been hard at work towards a history degree from TESC ever since. Only 48 credits to go!!! Granted, they're the hard ones, but still! It's kinda exciting. Smile

I've attached my degree plan template for you. A few people did this for me when I started, and it was incredibly helpful. Mine hasn't been officially (or even unofficially) approved by TESC, but, at least the ones I've done so far, I'm pretty sure I'm still good to go. Hope this helps!

Welcome to the site!
I am a lot like you. I had a bunch of credits sitting around collecting dust until I decided to go back to USF for a general studies degree. I could only backfill with a few CLEPs, maybe 5 or 6, and then I was going to take the rest of the program at USF. This path would have taken this entire year to complete and I would have ended up with a BSGS with a concentration in IT.

Geezer here recommended that I do a BSBA CIS with TESC and I started down that path mid November.
So I started CLEPing Oct 1, and I am going to take my last test next week I think.

If you put your nose to the grind stone and get in the groove, these tests fly by.

Enjoy it, I will miss the excitement when its all over.

By the way. I used REA books to great effect. I love those books. Instant cert is great but there is nothing like reading a real book on a subject and their test questions are spot on with the CLEP.
BSBA CIS from TESC, BA Natural Science/Math from TESC
MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU
Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science

thanks for all of your responses. I used the REA book for the College Mathematics exam along with the Barron's book, the College Board official book and the Princeton Review and all were quite helpful. I am hoping that this site and the flashcards will be extra help. I also signed up to do the Peterson's free exams. I am sort of nervous and feeling overwhelmed by the amount of material, but I am going to give it my all...

Hi,

:iagree: Just wanted to agree with the other responses. Petersons, REA, IC. These are all great resources as well as the Specific Feedback. Congrats on starting your journey and on passing your first CLEP. I'm sure you will do great on your next two. Watch out! Clepping can become addicting! Big Grin
