Does anyone out there have any experience with the Excelsior exams? I was looking at the two history exams that they offer and see that the price was higher, but I would love some feedback on the exams themselves. THanks

I have taken several ECE's, but no history exams. ECE's are harder and more involved than CLEP or DSST exams. They usually involve scenarios with several questions per scenario or all multiple choice questions. They are usually 3 hour exams and I have never finished one in less than 2.5 hours. I would highly recommend you see if they have practice exams for the tests you want to take, if so I would highly recommend purchasing and using them. They are $65 for two practice exams, but you will find them invaluable in getting familiar with the exam format and some of the same scenarios are used on the actual exams which saves time reading and interpreting the scenario. You can't print the practice exams, but you can revisit them for 30 days after you take them. The Pearson Vue proctoring and rules are also much more stringent than any DSST or CLEP test center I have used. Be prepared to be photographed, produce picture ID, and be finger printed or palm printed when you check-in and again before you enter the testing room and again when you leave the testing room. You can't take anything in the room with you, not even a watch. Everything has to be locked into a locker. It is much stricter than any other test center I have used. Good luck!

I have taken psychology ECE's but not history. There are no surprises with the ECE's if you go to the EC website and download the Exam Content Guide for the exam you want to take. The Guide gives you word for word what they expect you to know and the percentage of questions for each area of material. Also, as Marianne said, I also HIGHLY recommend that you spend the extra money and purchase the 2 practice exams for $65. There are no surprises if you take the practice exams-- they are extremely close to the real thing and a great study tool. The practice exams helped me more than any other resource for the ECE's. If you are a member of IC, the best place to find out what other people recommend for the particular exam you want to take is -- 'Specific Exam Feedback'. I would pay very close attention to what people recommend to study and focus on that. With the 'Feedback' and the practice exams you can't go wrong!!
