Newlane University is a Nationally Accredited (
DEAC) Online University that offers a $1500 flat rate
A.A. Degree in General Studies.
Transfer Credit Policy
- Students may transfer up to 75% of the credits required for their degree.
- A maximum of 25% of the required major credits may be transfer credits.
- American Council on Education (ACE) recommended courses may also be considered for credit.
- Newlane University accepts only grades of “C” or higher for transfer credit.
Something to consider but until someone actually attends we will not know the full story.

A good option, for those looking at RA and need them cheap, easy, fast, the best option for ROI/Value are the ones you can get free on route to the Bachelors or closer to free, like an extra capstone course for the Associates (Excelsior). TESU/UMPI, etc, has the Associates options for free on route to the Bachelors. An amazing deal would be the UMPI AALS, BLS, for $1700 flat, if you can finish all 10 classes for residency credit purposes... You can add the MAOL for another $2350 if you take the 3-4 classes that can go towards the MAOL, if you're going for a Masters later on.

Lehi, Utah. My first impression is that it's not legit, but I'd love to be proven wrong. An AA en route to my UMPI degree is something I'm interested in!

Newlane is legitimate and nationally accredited (DEAC), and also discussed in
this DegreeForum thread and
this long DegreeInfo thread. (The DegreeInfo thread began before Newlane was accredited.)

Newlane is legit, people can get a Bachelors for an additional $1500, in total, that would be $3K USD for an Associates plus the Bachelors. Having said that, for a few hundred dollars more, you can get an AALS plus BLS from UMPI for about the same price if a student requires two sessions at UMPI. A session is just $1700, if they're really quick, that can be $1700 for both the AALS and BLS, plus 3-4 classes that can go towards the MAOL...

A minor quibble, but I'm trying to figure out if higher-ups in my organization would view an AALS and a BLS with disdain. Anything with "Applied Science" could be better choice for me, if I'm going to attempt to climb the ladder here. I want to choose the right degree path, and wish I had more to go on!
Any thoughts on how the degrees are perceived in general? Thanks for your help! All things being equal, I'd like to have an Associates degree of whatever type. Since the demise of the Pierpont path, I was starting to look into an online AAS from Luna in New Mexico. It's free to anyone over 55 who resides in NE New Mexico, or (I believe) anyone over 55 who owns property or runs a business in NE New Mexico.

Liberal Studies degrees are check box degrees for promotions. AAS degrees are only really beneficial in technical fields otherwise they may be looked down on as terminal degrees by traditionalists even though they no longer are terminal with online schools. Applied Science degrees still do not transfer cleanly to most traditional brick and mortar universities.
The safest degrees are AA, AS, BA and BS as they are the most universally transferable but that is slowly changing.
