When I first opened my marketing flash cards, I hardly knew any answers, I knew some, but most I did not. However, I am reading the explanations, then going back into them and starting them over, putting in the answers. Is this a very effective way of retaining the information. I am taking 4 cleps, so I can get 15 credits to join the military, so this is really important for me to be able to pass these cleps. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

Yes!
After you have done that a few times, go to the Specific Exam Feedback thread and collect a list of topics or vocab words you may be weak on. Use a free site like
Wikipedia to look up the topics and "fill in the gaps" in your learning.
That is the recipe for success!

Zach,
Keep in mind that every subject has its own language or sets of terms. Part of the process of learning about a subject is understanding that terminology. The flashcards do a remarkable job of accomplishing that. They are generally low on fluff and high on the relevant information that you are likely to need.to pass the exam.
Good luck, you can do it!!!

Yup, you're doing it right! I generally went through all the flashcards about 3-4 times, reading the explanation each time. I also usually supplemented with a book or two and some practice exams.
I passed ALL of my exams and never scored lower than a 60.

Good study tips everyone! Thanks. I am just starting this process and I need all the help I can get. It's been many years since I was in school and I have gotten out of the study habit and it is a habit just like anything else.
I so do not look forward to this.

You won't believe me, but I'm going to say it anyway. My money says that once you pass a few tests, you will VERY MUCH look forward to all of this hilarious

You'll do GREAT! I am studying for my second exam and even though it's taking me a while to get ready, between IC, Peterson Exams and sparknotes I think I'll be ready to go in another week!!! Those are great tools to get you ready!

It sounds to me like you're on the right track! I have always studied by focusing on the terminology first. It clears up so much of the other information, once you learn the vocabulary.
