graduate funding sources
#1
I'm out of money.

No loans.

I don't check any minority boxes - is there anything out there for me?  Did a light search of scholarship sites, they seem.... scammy

Scholarships that are listed on the schools' sites, or that are from known organizations. Especially the ones for a specific field. What kind of grad school would you be going to?

Do you mean you don't want to consider loans or you can't get them? There are loans without credit checks.

Getting work to pay for it.
Working a side job / more than one job.
Working for a school to get discounts.

VESi and other cheap grad school credits. Some of them are like undergrad prices. Mostly if you want to work toward a general degree which takes a variety of credits, like the Amberton Professional Development one. Or work on PLA-ing grad credits. I'm thinking of doing 5 portfolios because Liberty allows about 50% transfer credits.

Or attending a really cheap grad school like NationsU (which is not RA, but in theological fields it matters less) for $125 a month.

Do you qualify for military discounts? Liberty has good discounts.

Nope, no military discount.

No to loans, because I'm not going in debt for a masters... lol

I was told by a college yesterday there is no federal aid for graduates.

Anybody have a lead on which scholarship site is best for drilling down?

(I am underemployed at the moment. I am hoping for a new job that has education benefits...)

I will go look at NU right now! Thanks!

Are you sure? Some Masters are so cheap now... if you can go fast enough. It seems worth going into debt by only around $4000 if it means you get a better paying job quicker. I think it could pay off in as little as 2-3 months for some people, maybe 6 months for other people.

If you are interested in NU, you might want to see the group thread link in my signature.

I write grants for my school. I set up Google alerts for specific search terms and have them dumped into a feed reader. Then I scan through the feed reader for possible leads. Then I schedule them into a Google calendar and write them.

My husband's last 2 degrees were funded at 100% and then 75% by his employers (different employers). This was HUGE for us. I think his bachelor's would have been about $30k and that was at 100% as long as he worked for them for 2 years post-diploma (he did) and his current MBA is ending this semester - they paid 75% with no strings, and he gets a pay raise when he finishes. At 75% we've paid only $500 per quarter for the past 3 years. I'm telling you- this is the way to get an education. HE CHANGED EMPLOYERS to get not only his MBA paid for, but our children's degrees as well.

I'm looking through Scholarships.com now. There are books that exist too, such as "The Ultimate Scholarship Book 2018: Billions of Dollars in Scholarships, Grants and Prizes". I knew someone (barely) who said that it's pretty easy to get a bunch of the smaller essay prizes, if you can write, because lots of people don't enter the essay ones, especially lower value ones. But if you get a bunch then it adds up. However, I don't know if I'm going to apply for many personally, because I could work more instead of applying.

How do they decide on scholarships? I'd be happy to apply for some but also don't want to waste many hours without results.
