XAMK Free Video Game Professional Certificate
#1
XAMK is a university in Finland that offers a free program in video game design.  The program is extremely cool and can result in up to 25 free ECTS credits.  This is roughly equivalent to 12 credit hours in the American credit system.  The credits are posted on an official university transcript.

https://www.xamk.fi/en/open-amk-courses/...-creation/

The new wrinkle is that the program now awards a professional certificate for various levels of achievement after one year.  Here is an excerpt from an email that I received from the program:

"1) New! Professional Certificate (ProC) launched.
In principle, we will issue ProC professional certificate after you have finished your studies, or when your right of study (12 months) has come to an end. We will award these also to students who have been us since the beginning of the course. We will update the levels according to your ECTS credits progress and void the earlier level.
Levels of Professional Certificates:
Bronze
Completed a minimum of 15 but less than 20 ECTS
Silver
Completed a minimum of 20 but less than 25 ECTS
Gold
Completed the whole course, e.g. 25 ECTS at the moment"

One additional aspect of this program that I just noticed.  At the bottom of the email, I noticed the following copyright line:

XAMK Open University and Cambridge Academy of Digital Games and Innovation

Sure enough, this is the Cambridge that everybody thinks about.  So if you want just a touch of Cambridge on your resume, this is one way to get it.

Thanks! this is better than their diploma program which takes over a year to complete. They don't give you a transcript until you fully complete their diploma program..

I hope this program can be finished much faster than that. and I hope we will be able to use its credits as general elective at US universities.

Here's their course syllabus:

You can take the course here too:

I'm taking their course right now. Everything's in British English.

Here's the address of 'Cambridge Digital Innovation'

You can finish it as quickly as you want. Some of the modules are more difficult than others, but most people here can probably finish in a couple of months.

Do they provide the course through Teachable.com?
Then I'll be interested in.

Do WES charge $300 per transcript evaluation?

Yes, the video game certificate is through Teachable.

I think Wes evaluations are $200 for course-by-course?

What.... that's a lot!

i.e. this video game creation course has 10 modules. Does that mean I will be charged $2k for WES evaluation?
That's going to cost too much money for 12 credits.

Nope, it's $200 for a course by course evaluation of the entire certificate, regardless of the amount of courses there are... (wow, for a Bachelors, if you take like an entire degree with 40 courses, it's the same price!)

You're right. WES charges $188 USD per evaluation of any certificate. That's pretty cool. If my college accepts full 12 credits, I may take their diploma courses too.

Interesting!

The certificate will most likely say "XAMK South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences" which sounds a little funny to me.

My main worry is that I'd have to keep requesting transcripts from XAMK every time I apply to a (U.S.) school in the future. Or maybe they don't care if I omit the foreign credits?
