The topic of activity slowing down on the other forum came up. I know why several of you don't post there, but I'd be interested in hearing input from others.

I found this forum first, and the community here has been helpful. Any time I've searched anything relating to TESU or the "Big 3", this forum has consistently shown up in the top results.
The other forum also seemed to be inactive to me, but maybe I'm wrong. I also found the constant ads throughout the other forum's pages annoying.

Because of all the bitching and politically-motivated posts, and general coldness/aggressiveness. I don't go to a forum about college education to read democrat/republican b.s.
I'm a member on other forums with more "aggressive" crowds, but for talking about education....its not that serious. Plenty of other places to bicker and push political points in posts.
Oh, and they focus more on masters/PhD and I'm not at that point yet, so I read and do a little posting here.

This crap is why. Half of the forum consists of random news and political b.s. Not to mention the racially-motivated posts I've seen there, also. I just want to learn about getting more education, not hear that crap. Bitchy people are annoying.
We are all on the same side here, trying to better our lives....so let's get along and help each other out.
Learn a trade. Gain technical skills. Make money, then use this money to get a degree...if you have the desire.

I've only been there a few times. I didn't find it to be a friendly place and definitely had way too many posts that were not related to pursuing an education. It's not that I mind off-topic posts, but it feels like that's all there is over there. And I agree on the ads too!

This is my biggest problem there as well. I don't generally care about what your political views are, unless you're saying, "x_Candidate is bad, therefore all x_Candidate voters should be stoned and burned with lots of fire," because that's just in poor taste no matter who is saying it.
But when I click on the "New Posts" button, 90% of it is about "Muh Trump is bad" or "Muh Trump is awesome" with some additional bullcrap mixed in about the most recent celebrity death or how some obscure actor I've never even heard of once forgot to zip his fly in a public bathroom. Look, if I want to hear about how "evil" and "horrible" Trump is, I'll browse the Politics or Resist subreddits. If I want to hear about how "great" and "MAGA exemplified" he is, I'll stop by the T_D subreddit.

This forum really focuses on "hacking your degree"... I find navigating the other forum more difficult also. Like others have commented, it seems most activity at degreeinfo is politics.
I like talking about politics... ...in real life. It's challenging to have a reasonable argument/discussion online. Online, everyone just likes to cuddle in their echo chamber and then screech at anyone who dares disagree with them... I'm more right-leaning myself, and I get attacked often whenever I point out something that does not fit the party mold (e.g. I'm against the death penalty).
That's what's scary about ideologies though... you are expected to conform to a mold. No wonder division in this country is at an all time high. Personally, I try to think critically about each issue at hand, and form my opinion accordingly.

The other site lacks some key drivers to support a productive forum:
Frequency of posts - there is just no good reason to check it daily with the low volume of new posts
Subject matter - it comes off as less an educational resource and more an opinion/debate based forum
Full Stories - one of the greatest aspects of this forum is that there are complete threads: Subjects - Desire of Degree -Work For Degree - Celebration of Degree. That is an initial part of what makes a forum feel connected and welcoming to new visitors. There are countless questions asked and answered within this forum and the other site has plenty of dated questions/answers but not enough to feel current in value.
I have enjoyed the forum and if it included some of the key characteristics mentioned above, I would definitely visit and contribute more.

You started this in the other forum and they answered the question.
A Ph.D. said this is the JV forum and they the elitist other forum and Ph.D.'s are the Varsity.
I find this forum 95% useful and that one about 5%.

For undergraduate info, I would totally agree. But for graduate info, the other board and specialist boards are much more information than here. I am on too many, most of the time just lurking for details, such as deals for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, or reading new threads on Masters/PHD in Cybersecurity.
