Who can take DSST exams?
#1
I was wondering whether DSST exams are open to everyone just like Clep is. It seems, though I can't figure out where I read it, that DSST exams can be taken only by military personnel? Is this true? Thanks for your response.

Military members get both of them for free and DSST started out as a military option but remains open to all. Visit DSST | Get College Credit for the non-military user portion of their program.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

It is unfortunate that I hear some academic advisors are telling their students that DSST is only open to the military. It really doesn't help when these professionals do not know the program...

Not that I know of. I remember the registration for CLEP and DSST asking for my education level but that is just for their own records. DSST writes "Adult learners, homeschooled students, and military veterans are also eligible to earn college credits through DSST." For DSST you can read through the test taker guide but I don't think age comes into play for any of the exams: http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/pdf/D...lletin.pdf

You register for the exam, show up, and take it. You don't bring up your age or ask permission. People who go through life asking permission all the time hear no a lot. You just act like you should be there. If you aren't old enough to drive, that could present a problem. You need to show a photo id that they consider acceptable. A passport is acceptable.
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I
77 CLEP College Mathematics
470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition
73 CLEP Biology
54 CLEP Chemistry
77 CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications

Lol, thanks. I really do appreciate the advice but you are saying that to the king of not asking permission.

I'll pass the info off to my 12 year old that got his Here's to Your Health exam prep book though. He'll appreciate it.
