Which history is easier?
#1
Hi,

I think I am going to complete my second depth in history since I found a place I can take the tests on the weekend finally. Smile I need to take two histories, one upper and lower division. For my lower, what is easier between Western civ. 2, Western history from 1945, Vietnam History or social science and history? I have already taken US history to 1865 and US history after 1865 in college, years ago, so they are out. I am pretty good at English history from the 1800's on.
Unless someone knows where I could take a challenge test on English History somewhere?

I was thinking of for my upper division Rise and fall of the Soviet History over Civil War mainly because I took a course years ago on the Soviet Union, land, people, and culture and my interest the Russian monarchy mostly the last Tsar's family but... Although if someone thinks, Civil war would be that much easier, I would consider changing....

Thanks for your help.

DSST Western Europe Since 1945 is not easy, but then again it's more comparative politics than history! However, you do cover some history and there's a bit of crossover between this material and the DSST Soviet Union exam (from what I've looked at so far). There is a slight crossover between the Western Europe exam and DSST History of the Vietnam War (French colonialism, containment strategy).

Personally, for the lower level I'd opt for Western Civ 2. That or the Social Sciences and History, depending on whether or not you've studied sociology, psychology, etc. It's probably a toss-up between those two. SS&H is a 6-credit CLEP as opposed to a 3-credit, if that helps.

Vietnam War and Western Europe Since 1945 are both tough. Of course, they didn't have IC for those tests when I took them, so that made it a lot harder. It might not be so bad study-wise now. If you had to choose between those two, Vietnam is easier because there are fewer countries and fewer government bureacracies and acronymns to keep track of. Big Grin

Civil War and Soviet Union are probably a toss-up. I found Civil War easier but that's partly because I was much, much more familiar with it, as I'm a Civil War reenactor and volunteer at a Civil War museum. Your class on Russia may make the Soviet Union test a little easier, although the test is geared more on the last hundred years or so of Russia, not so much on all the historic royalty and stuff. Just pick whichever one interests you the most. Good luck!
