Which School For 16 Year Old
#1
Your Location: USA
Your Age: 16
What kind of degree?: Associates or bachelors.
Budget: Average in state university tuition rates.
Commitments:  Household chores.
Dedicated time to study: Unlimited.
Timeline: January.
Tuition assistance/reimbursement:  Pell Grant.
Goal?: Obtain a bachelor or associate degree.
Credits / Other:  None.
Any certifications or military experience? None.
Sophia Learning Credits: None

My son is 16 and graduating from high school this month.  I am looking for recommendations for schools and programs in which he can obtain a bachelor or associates degree over the next year or so.  Sophia, SDC, SL, and Coursera are all on his radar for as many credits as he can knock out there.

I know many schools have minimum age limits, so I’m not quite sure where to start.  He’s thinking business or a basic cloud computing or IT program for undergrad while he figures out what he want to pursue for a career.

He lives in Florida, I live in Georgia, he has a grandparent in New Hampshire, and an aunt in DC.  He’s welcome to live with any of us for school or attend an online program.

Western Governers University seems to be a good fit as it does have business and IT bachelors which can be all completed one term. I think thier age minimum is 16

I'd say knock out a bunch of sophia and study credit, transfer them in. max of 90 i believe.

That’s interesting, especially as it looks as if he’ll be with other his same age working through the program.  Thank you.

Just a general business degree for now.  He wants to go to trade school to be an aircraft maintenance technician at an airline, but wants to have a bachelor degree to set him up for better promotion potential in the future.

Basically, I would go for the credits providers you mentioned, Coursera, Sophia.org, etc and try to hit 90+ credits with those alone... While you're going for these credits, create a degree plan and spreadsheet by following the WIKI plans available for institutions of choice. You can compare them side by side to see which one allows a max transfer of say 90 credits towards their Bachelors. TESU, WGU, Excelsior, etc are all available to him with these transfer credits in play, he'll also get to max out the certs using Coursera, this would mix/match his trifecta combo of certs, degree, experience...
