To be honest, It seems a bit silly to me all the precautions they are taking for open book exams..

PrLoko-isms
Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Sorry to bump this thread but I have a question about how this works with Straighterline. If you have an open book exam and have an e-book or PDF of the book, are you allowed to use that during the exam? Ideally I'd like to be able to use open the PDF on one screen and have the test on the other in a dual monitor setup. Is that possible?

If the Straighterline exam your are taking is open book, you are allowed to use it during the exam. The proctor will have full access to your computer at the time of your exam and will close all programs not allowed before taking the exam. That was my experience. Hope this helps!

During my first ProctorU exam they told me to do that only if my webcam was an internal camera. Since my webcam was an external one all I had to do was move it around the room and point it at the front of the monitor.

They can access your mouse and keyboard to close applications.
Anything they're accessing you would be able to see them access on your own screen. They don't have any back-end access to your computer beyond controlling your mouse/keyboard.

You can also discontinue the access at any time. The process is to make sure you don't have any programs open other than those allowed for the exam, such as your ebook.
