What degrees can I get with these credits?
#1
I am currently attending a B&M community college doing an associate's degree in Nursing Prep. I will graduate next May and then I plan to transfer to a 4 year university to complete a bachelor's in nursing. However, the nursing programs are very competitive and I am limited to local schools only because I have to stay in my geographic area. I would like a "back up" degree in a different if the nursing doesn't pan out because I need to be employed ASAP. The credits I currently have are:

English Composition I (3)
English Composition II (3)
General Psychology (3)
Lifespan Growth & Development (3)
Interpersonal Communication (3)
College Algebra (3)
Texas Government (3)
Anatomy & Physiology I (4)
Anatomy & Physiology II (4)
General Chemistry I (4)

I also have 3 CLEPs: American Government, US History I and Biology.

By the time I graduate from my current program next May I will also have:

US History II (most likely as a CLEP or if I fail the CLEP I will take the class worth 3 credits at my school)
World Religions (3)
Spanish I (3)
Spanish II (3)
Art Appreciation (3)
American Literature (3)
Microbiology (4)
Chemistry II (4)

Any ideas on degrees I could complete quickly and cheaply if I fail to get into nursing school?

Thanks!

Perhaps a BA in Natural Sciences from TESC?

Right, and that's my plan right now which is why I have these credits. I am asking what I else I can do with these credits if the nursing doesn't work out and I have to go in a different direction.

I'd say choose whatever interests you or will be the easiest to test out of. You pretty much only have gen ed courses. You have more science credits than you need in gen ed, but all of them are lower level either because they are always lower level or because they come from a community college. In other words, I don't think you're much closer to any particular major. The easiest degrees to test out of are psychology, social science, liberal studies, and business administration. TESC has a limit of 6 credits at the 100 level in the area of study. The Biology CLEP covers all of those for a natural science or liberal studies degree at TESC. That will leave the chemistry credits in gen ed or free electives. Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Microbiology will probably give you 12 credits at the 200-level for a natural science or liberal studies degree at TESC. Excelsior and COSC will require some UL credits outside of the major/concentration in addition to what's required in the major/concentration.

That might sound like you're much closer to a liberal studies or natural science degree, but those additional science credits wouldn't be a waste in the other BA degrees. They would end up in free electives, which you still need to fill. In short, choose liberal studies or natural science and have more free electives to fill; or, choose another BA degree and have more area of study credits to fill. Either way, you're down the same number of credits.
