What career change would you suggest for law enforcement?
#11
He finally located his college transcript. He has A LOT fewer credits than he thought. He would have only 9 credits… all would be “electives”. So I think we would have to find one more RA course.

In addition, I suggested these courses on Sophia to cover the required subject areas:

US History 1
US History 2
Intro to Computer Technology
Environmental Science
Intro to College Math
Communication at Work
Conflict Resolution

Then fill in the rest of the electives.

The goal is fast, easy, cheap at this point. Initially, it would just be for the sake of checking the box. If he decides to go further, we will cross that bridge if/when we get there.

Any flaws in the plan? Also, what would the transcript from Pierpont look like? He’d have to upload the transcript at work when he is done.

It gets overshadowed here by other UMPI degrees, but UMPI has a YourPace BA in Criminal Justice. There's also a Criminal Justice minor in the catalog, which suggests the possibility if advisor approved of a Criminal Justice minor in another YourPace degree, potentially including the BLS or BAS.

He would likely come in with extensive familiarity with concepts from work and noncredit training.

At the moment, he is not sure if he wants to go that route.  The Pierpont Associates could be free or near free for him, so it’s more appealing at this time.

Since they may be interested in IT (with the option to move to cybersecurity) this might be a good place to start. https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...PI-BAS-MIS (Wiki Page - https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pi...egree_Plan)

This is the one, it provides the user ACE/Alternative credit that can be used towards the Pierpont BOG AAS with an emphasis in IS/IT. Further to that, they can dabble with some inexpensive industry recognized Google/IBM certs or anything else that may be offered.

I did mention the American Dream academy. My big question right now is a few posts up. Will those classes I listed hit the required courses before filling in for the electives. Those are the ones I suggested he start with to fit in to the requirements, after that he can fill in with whatever he wants.

I would think that a BSBA management would serve him well. There are a lot of law enforcement adjacent businesses that would be a good fit for both his current experience and a business degree. Security companies, equipment suppliers, service providers, recruiters, etc... all need competent managers with law enforcement knowledge.

Defense contractors also employ a lot of ex-military and would probably consider the law enforcement experience a plus. In those cases almost any technical degree would work well, CS, Cybersec, or EE, for example.

I don't think Conflict Resolution is an English/Communication course, but I could be wrong? Might want to take Visual Communication just to be sure. Otherwise, this list looks good.

Thank you.  I am hoping he can avoid The English Composition classes that I have heard bad things about.  Wink
