UMPI Collecting credits before applying?
#1
Hello guys!
I read a post saying that first we need to get all the credits before applying. But in my case I have an AS degree with 50 credits in it that I would like to transfer, although it's from a Canadian institution so I need to go through evaluation first.
I will be doing all the credits at Sophia and Study.com but first I need to know which courses were approved otherwise I could risk duplicating some of my courses. So this is my dilemma, should I guess and start with Sophia? Or wait till my credits are approved?
For what I understand once you apply you have to start paying the $1400 per term, right?
Thanks everyone!
Adrian

I would get the evaluation done and start staking classes on Sophia while you wait for that. Take classes that you didn't take. You won't need Study to transfer to UMPI. You don't pay anything when you apply. You are billed for your tuition once you register for classes.

Definitely start taking classes that you didn't take for your AS. For example, if your degree has "econ" but not science classes, don't take Micro or Macroeconomics at Sophia but you would want to get started on Sophia's science Human Biology, etc., while you wait.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

@adrianeraldo, hey there again! Long time not chat... I see you've been looking at both TESU and now UMPI. You really want to fill us in with more information and details from the template and last post addendum here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

You're jumping the gun a bit as you're looking for information but not providing enough details, we won't know what will transfer without knowing what you have. Getting the initial evaluation after applying will tell us what you have and what is missing, filling in the template and addendum will give us the overview.

Note: I am linking both of your questions from your recent post asking for "updates" to this post, as those members haven't been on for at least 5-6 months, they won't have an update for you until they decide to post again.

Your Location: New Brunswick, Canada

Your Age: 54

What kind of degree do you want?: Any bachelor degree that gives me higher chances of getting into med school in Canada.

Current Regional Accredited Credits:

School Name Total Credits: # NBCC - 50 from a Canadian college that still need to go through evaluation

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: ACE 21 credits

28/6/2017 Business 109: Intro to Computing  96 pct,
8/26/2017 English 104: College Composition I 84 pct
10/5/2017 Communications 101: Public Speaking 81 pct
10/8/2017 Spanish 101: Beginning Spanish 98 pct
11/20/2017 Spanish 102: Intermediate Spanish 94 pct
3/20/2018 Business 102: Principles of Marketing 80 pct
2/21/2018 Spanish 105: Spanish for the Workplace 90 pct

Provider Total Credits: # Study.com

--
So this is my current situation:

2017 - I started in TESU collecting the credits through Study.com
2018 - Few courses done
2019 - Got a scholarship to enter Electronics Engineering Tech at NBCC ( 2 years diploma )
2023 - Decided to use all those credits towards a bachelors either at UMPI or UoPeople. Right now I'm doing the free trial at Sofia.org.

Thank you all for the years of help!

If you want to get into med school in Canada, you're going to need to check what prereq courses are required. For some of them, they may not allow them to be done online; you'll need to do labs, etc. in person. If you've already got this covered with your Canadian credits, great. Otherwise, you may be facing some difficulties ahead.

UMPI is RA (still the gold standard in the US) and UofPeople is NA - if you are going to to choose one or the other, the RA school (UMPI, like TESU) would be a better choice.
Amberton - MSHRB
TESU - ASNSM/BSBA

@adrianeraldo, Great job with the extra details, having said that... You missed the addendum on the link I provided earlier. With the limited information you have provided, my suggestion is a back up plan just in case Canadian med schools don't accept you. A few years ago, I looked at the Caribbean schools and a year later, looked at them again, KPU in BC Canada has a direct admissions option with St George (one of our members attends this med school on a scholarship, and you posted in the thread asking for an update).

What you want to do is, complete the addendum and post your info here. Then review these two threads of mine, it'll give you a brief overview of the Caribbean system. There are so many variables in applications, they'll look at many factors and unfortunately, ageism exists in all schools. Keep your eyes open and mind free to select non-canadian/us med schools.

If you want to go to med school, I wouldn't suggest an online program. You're going to need in person science courses. Definitely check out what the schools you're interested in apply to for med school require.
