Wow! So, Ethnomusicology is no longer a thing at UC Bekeley. I know a lot of you on this board are bummed by this news. Hoping this post saves all the Ethnomusicologists that read DegreeForum an application fee, because they are probably not going to refund it!

Tedium, what sort of jobs does Ethnomusicology lead to?

My first guess would be that it doesn't lead to jobs, hence why they can't find teachers to teach the subject.
Honestly, you can probably go for the same sort of positions an Anthropologist could go for. Museums/Archivist, Teacher, Field research, historical preservation, etc., etc.
Actually, since you would presumably learn some music, you have the added benefit of being able to perform the music. The renaissance festival awaits!

It seems like some core faculty left and they haven’t been replaced. Does not follow that ethnomusicology is not a thing at Berkeley.
This sort of thing happens all the time. I applied to Northwestern to work as a grad student with a particular professor. They didn’t admit me but they also didn’t reject or waitlist me, they told me they would hold my application open another year if I wanted to be considered in the next cycle. They said mine would be the first application that was reviewed. Turns out, the faculty member had accepted a position at another university but it hadn’t been made public. They kept my money and I accepted an offer at another university. This sort of thing sticks, but it’s part of the process.
Master of Accountancy (taxation concentration), University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, in progress.
Master of Business Administration (financial planning specialization), University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, in progress.

In-person/B&M: MA (American history)

Sorry, Tedium. I know better than to get upset, but I just don't think it was all that funny. For the past 60-odd years, I've been a fan and student of various kinds of off-mainstream music - primarily early Blues, Cajun, Roma (Gypsy), some African - and North American folk music in general.
I'm not a musicologist. Just not qualified -at all. Strictly an amateur. But I have many books written by musicologists and they have greatly helped in understanding the background of what I hear - and try to play. Their contributions are to be respected. They are not to be mocked.
I'm sorry to hear about the news from UC Berkeley. But thank you for informing me.

Poor choice of words. I apologize. I was more intending to mock the fact that I was posting it at all, because the news would probably not be of interest to anyone on this board. My apologies.

Apology gratefully accepted. A gentleman for sure - and no doubt a scholar. Thank you. I appreciate it.
