Two Nursing Courses Needed
#11
Wow! Thanks for all the helpful info. She is getting her degree through a private school, SAU (http://www.southern.edu). She was attending on campus, but then decided to move back to her home state (WA) to finish the last half of her BSN through their online program. That is when she ran into these issues...

I'll definitely check out allnurses, as well as the courses mentioned. My guess would be that ALEKs statistics is a far shot since her school has very rigorous nursing standards, but it's definitely worth a shot.

What school are you trying to use this at? What will they accept? If they would accept the ALEKS course above that would be my choice...but very few schools will be familiar with it and nursing programs are rather notorious for being very particular regarding course selection.

Excelsior offers a couple of upper level exams, but I don't think either are what your looking for. Excelsior College | Bachelor Degree Exams

That's my exact suggestion too. It seems like the first one is the bridge class, which might be specific to her school, but stats would seem easy to find, but really, Allnurses would probably have a good bit of feedback that might be more on point.

Okay- I have a different suggestion she could try in-house for stats. I went into their online graduate catalog and found this:

NRSG 527 - Nursing Research: Foundations of Evidence-based Practice
4 hours
Prerequisite(s): NRSG 316 or equivalent basic statistics.
Focuses on the steps of ethical quantitative and qualitative research and on understanding and utilizing research studies as the basis for advanced practice. Application and interpretation of descriptive and inferential statistics are included. Emphasizes integration of research (evidence) into care of individuals, families, and communities with potential or actual stressors and threats to wellbeing. Lab fee 5 will be assessed for this course.

Two points- first, they consider NRSG316 basic stats (meaning it might not have to be 300 level! DSST maybe?) If not, then turn it back on them and ask for permission to enroll in THIS course. Even if they enforced the pre-req, perhaps the DSST could work as a non-credit prereq. This might be more acceptable to them if they're opposed to transfer in from other schools.

Great suggestions, Jennifer! Thank you!

Unfortunately, we just received word that they will not allow either of those courses to be transferred in. Sad It's pathetic because now she has to wait a whole year to finish her BSN.

Bummer Sad
I might try asking again. Technically, using the grad school wouldn't be transferring in, you'd be using their courses (that they'd get $ for). Couldn't hurt asking again.
Did she already sit the NCLEX or does she have to wait until next year?

She's trying to work out the details with them... She's not sure yet whether the will let her take the grad class instead.

Yes, she has already taken NCLEX and has her ASN.
