Thomas Edison Associates in Nuclear Engineering

TESC offers an Associate in Nuclear*Engineering*. I am intrested in the program but I would like to the courses online from somewhere else and transfer them. Is there any university or test exam similar to CLEP/Straighterline/DSST or even a university that has lower and upper level*engineering*courses I could take by exam or finish a course one at a time.*

Here are the courses I need:

Area of Study: Nuclear*Engineering*Technology. 21
A. Nuclear Physics. 3
B. Thermodynamics or Heat Transfer. 3
C. Fluid Mechanics. 3
D. Reactors3E. Radiation Safety. 3
F. Nuclear*Engineering*Technology Electives. 3
G. Associate Capstone (APS-295) 3
Electives. 1

There is a Radiation Safety Officer TECEP.

Thanks! I see a lot of engineering courses from Legacy/Saylor website. For example the heat transfer course. Would TESC accept this as a credit? See link below:

TESC only accepts Saylor Courses directly for credit that are ACE or NCCRS recommended. Some Saylor courses are aligned with various tests such as TECEP, DSST, CLEP etc. and credit can be earned by taking the exam. For the courses that are not ACE or NCCRS recommended, you would have to do a PLA portfolio assessment. I have never done one so I'm not sure what the process is. When I was looking at doing PLA through TESC I was told that if you complete a training course and have a certificate then PLA process is easier, though TESC advisors have been known to give incorrect information. You would have to check with TESC to see what the process is for using Saylor courses with PLA. TESC has the open option ASBA that is based on Saylor courses. I have heard that the PLA process usually involves quite a bit of writing. Learningcounts.org also offers PLA credits. It is NCCRS recommended so TESC may accept the credits.

Swalke321 thanks for the detailed advice and information. I saw that MIT offer lots of nuclear engineering open courses for free. In your opinion do you think I could take these courses and transfer and apply PLA to TESC? Also, do you know how much PLA cost?

you're talking about this right ?

Thomas Edison State College: Nuclear Engineering Technology

"The Associate in Science in Applied Science and Technology (ASAST) degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology is designed for reactor operators and other workers in the nuclear industry. Students who have completed Navy Basic Nuclear Power School will receive credit for that training. The degree is a 60-credit program."

is that you ?

TESC has their own program that evaluates various training programs or professional certifications and awards credit called Academic Program Reviews. It looks like TESC has evaluated some nuclear training programs for college credit.

TESC gave me a butt load of credits for all my training in the Navy. I break it all down at: Dposborne's BS in Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology - Degree Forum Wiki
