This forum has a search feature...give it a try

Yeah, I really don't mind someone "PM"ing or emailing for a particular question about a subject, my school etc.. Opinion related items, or a specific question. But as for the FAQs stuff, it gets a little old. There is SOOOOO MUCH information on this forum. Most topics have multiple threads anyway.

I couldn't agree more about the PMs. I don't mind a specific question, or even a general inquiry about a particular exam. I'm more than happy to help, but I have received several PMs from new members asking questions that have been answered countless times on the forum or asking for notes, study guides, etc.

Here's a PM I received recently...

Quote:"Hey,
You have passed a lot of tests. Send me all of your notes to ______@yahoo.com"

That's the entire message. Heck, there wasn't even a "please" thrown in. This person had contributed nothing to the forum and only had 1 post which was a thread asking for anyone to send study materials to her email.

Good grief. Wow.

Everyone who has PM'd me about stuff has at least been polite. Jeepers.

I agree with this thread. The search function is great but I would like to throw out a suggestion for it. I've been looking for some information for a friend on testing out of a graduate level Management Information Systems (MIS) course. If you use the search function and type in "MIS" it will not search for it due to the word being too short. The problem with this is that people more often than not would type "MIS" rather than than the full word. Also when searching for "Management Information Systems" you cannot quote the whole phrase for the search so you end up with all the threads that contain all of the words. Allowing searches to be placed in quotes would lead to less frustration for the person searching for information and less new threads.

I do agree that people should use the search function and a lot of people don't. It would cut down on the constant new FEMA threads for sure. hilarious

Really?? Why let that get you wound up. If people come looking for help, and ask a question that's already been asked. Chooose one of 3 options:

1: Ignore it

2: Answer the question

3: Point them in the direction of the answer (link the other thread or something)

Maybe you recall having a few questions someone helped you with. Pass it forward.

Joe,

No one here is saying that they don't want to answer questions, or help people. We just don't like it when people (apparently) don't put in any effort to search for any answer, especially for a general type question.

I love how threads keep evolving too. For example FEMA credits. Once they were accepted here, then they weren't. In today's fast paced society you just have to take them time and do research yourself. I might be guilty too, but I am getting better.

Ok, so my pet peeve is in a long thread, people don't read the whole thread before posting. (I'll admit I'm doing that right now LOL) BUt the FEMA thread is an example of that- it's like a hundred pages long, and there are a lot of the same questions asked over and over (and answered over and over).
But- I'm not a hater. I hope this thread encourages people to search, but also not feel like they can't ask a question.

I wonder if this stems for the mentality that test-derived education is a no-effort way of obtaining a degree. We know this is quite false: we have to work to get our results just like anyone. Though I must admit, we are certainly more efficient. Big Grin

The ability to pass a CLEP test or DSST is not handed to you on a silver platter! But IC and using the search function and taking heed to what you read is pretty close.

Joel, you should have used the search feature before you posted this. It has already been posted before. hilarious
