How to determine if i need CLEP English Comp with or without Essay..
#1
This is a reference from my BSBA degree plan posted a while ago.. The time is coming to where i have to take CLEP English Comp (I believed they changed the name from College Comp.. but same course..)

I am unsure if i need to take the one with the Essay or without the Essay.. I don't know what the difference is, or which one is easier.. since writing is not one of my strengths.. Im not bad at it, i just dont like it :leaving:

"
1. General Education
A. English Composition
1. ENGL 100 – College Writing 3 (CC)
NEED 3 CR ENC-102 COURSE, CAN TAKE CLEP COLLEGE COMP, TECEP FOR ENC-102, or TAKE THE COURSE. TESC Requires six credits of English Comp (outside of courses like Business or Technical Writing) and they will transcribe as ENC101 and ENC102 no matter the source"

Any confirmation and/or recommendation is much appreciated!

Thanks!

I did English Comp. with Essay, but I got it right before they changed the test; it was being grammar in the 1st section, and one written essay (from a question they give you) in the 2nd section, but now you have to do TWO essays, back to back. Sad
(I'm just glad I did it before they changed that; scored a 60)

If what you wrote is correct, TESC says "CLEP College Comp", not College Comp Modular (which is the exam name if they do not require the essays). I would still double-check with TESC as your description also says this exam would be awarded 3 credits and College Comp is normally awarded 6 for a passing score. Sorry, cannot help more...

This was an evaluation given by:

Cooperalex2004

seems to know his stuff, but you are correct, if i cannot find a confirmed answer i shall check in with the college itself.
The only thing i dont like about that is i have read these stories from individuals where the college gives them false information.
We will see if any more suggestions come up.

College Composition has a multiple choice portion with two mandatory essays. One essay is on a quote or argument, and must be completed in 30 minutes. The other essay requires you to read two sources, then write a paper stating your position on the issue and citing the essays. You get 40 minutes for that one.

College Composition Modular does not have any required essays. It has an extra section in the multiple choice portion, and it does have optional essays. These essays, if your college required them, are graded by the institution that you send your test scores to. This allows the college more control over the essays, if they would rather have that.

The College Composition is the general 6-credit test that most colleges use, I think. However, it is always best if you check with TECEP directly so that you don't take the wrong one. They should be able to tell you which one you need for your degree plan.

Are you still talking about TESC? If so, you will need the full exam (College Composition) and not the modular version. The with and without essay exams no longer exist. I had the same scenario where I brought in a course for ENC-101 but didn't have ENC-102. TESC should keep the credits you already have and end up duplicating three of the six credits, but you still need that six credit exam to get what TESC judges to be the coursework to match ENC-102. You can also take the TECEP for that specific course, but that is about the same cost and hand-written (which I know I'd hate when writing essays). It takes time to grade so don't wait too long or you'll be waiting for Collegeboard to grade the essays. SoliDeoGloria explained the differences well, you can also find more info on the exam differences at collegeboard.org/clep. For this exam I will warn people to avoid free-clep-prep.com since it still lists the old exams which do have slightly different content. If you (or anyone else reading this) is enrolled at TESC, I can't stress how helpful they can be in planning out the remainder of degrees, just make sure you schedule an appointment and don't expect the "expressline" staff to always have the answer.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

I was told by TESC that I need to take the exam with the essay. I tried to transfer one in without essay and they did not accept it.
CLEPS Passed: 10 DSST Passed: 11 TECEPS: 1

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.
