Hello All,

Hoping for a little help here, this is my list of upcoming CLEP/DSST/TECEP exams I plan to take (1/6 & 1/9 have already been scheduled). Is this a good plan for taking the courses? I’m specifically wondering about the progression of study. Thanks in advance for any insight.

1/6 SOC-101-CE Intro to Sociology
1/6 PSY-101-CE Intro to Psychology
1/9 ENG-201-DE Technical Writing (know this subject)
2/13 SOS-101/102-CE Social Sciences & History
2/27 PSY-211-DE Lifespan Developmental Psychology
2/27 PSY-270-TE Psychology of Women
3/13 SOS-305-DE Substance Abuse (know opioids the rest is going to take some study)
3/13 REL-405-DE Introduction to World Religions (well versed on this subject)

hilarious Oh, man. The range of possible sexist jokes here (on both sides) is dizzying.

I would have taken Social Sci. first, since it is the most generalized. If you pass the first two, you should have no troubles with Social Sci. & History, unless you're REALLY bad with history.

Everything else looks fine, as far as order goes. Substance Abuse only has very slight crossover with the psych courses, and I have no idea about the religion test but I imagine the same. Go get em!

Personally, since you know technical writing, I'd just review and get that done first and foremost to put it behind and help the ego a little Smile

Janus the Phoenix addressed social science and history.

I'd suggest, as other posters before me, Intro Sociology before Psych, Psych before Lifespan Development, but not sure where Psych of Women would come in here but based on the numbers I would say that after Lifespan. There is a lot of cross over information in these subjects. Subtance Abuse later on.

By the way, when doing Substance Abuse, I would suggest not worrying about the link given on the specific exam feed back section to the DEA Schedule. I found this Wiki site to be easier for me to understand and enough to help: Controlled Substances Act - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . It was simple enough to understand the basics, had explanations about the various schedules and how meds were listed, and common examples.

Psych gets exhausting, the details and names to be remembered, so I would suggest that every so often you stager them with some things you either find more interesting or less work, just to give your mind a break. I'm sure others would say just knock them out, so I guess it depends on your studying style.

From prior postings here, World Religions is a toughy -- so need to plan on study time for that one.

Good luck. Always remember, you can eat an elephant -- one bite at a time. Take your time and just check them off as you feel ready or almost ready - LOL.

Thank you all for your replies - they are all quite helpful! And too funny!!! Loved the jokes!!! hilarious

So I will keep the list as is and knock em out. BTW I am much better at retaining information on SOC & PSY then HIS. History is not my best subject :o so I'm going to need time to study through IC, clep guide and petersons. Also now I dont feel so spooked by the added psy courses. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the tip on wiki with substance abuse! I took a look and its great!

I did a practice petersons for world religion and it was actually very easy. I've studied religions for a very long time. Everyone in my family practices different religions: buddhist, hindi, christian, muslim...so for this reason I'm not too worried about that one. Will still review a bit prior but actually once you know it, its not too good to go over it too much because you begin to second guess yourself. Atleast that is a "big" problem that I have. I screw up with the second guessing.

Anyway, thanks again! Will report back on the specific exam thread as I'm taking the classes.

Yeah, the second guessing causes problems every time Smile

Go for it and put another check on your list.

Word of warning about world religions, several have underestimated the difficulty of this exam; many have said it needs to be an upper level test. Search the forum, specifically the Specific Exam Feedback Section, to get an in-depth review of what the test is about.

I am curious as to what the Psych of Women test is about so be sure to leave feedback to help other testers as well...sort of like a Pay It Back system. Good luck and God speed.

As an FYI, World Religions is now designated as Upper Level as per GetCollegeCredit.com.
