tsimmns Wrote:Thanks for the information. The low GPA originally came from the Unviersity where I have a 1.5 or so. I can replace 4 original F's I made and then need 4 classes, 2 with an A and 2 with a B to raise my GPA above a 2.0. This seems best case scenario, but I'm sure they use all classes and will send that to eventual Graduate School. None of my classes will be taken at TESC so I am assuming I won't have a GPA from there? I can always retake the classes I did terrible in at a community college but is that worth doing or is getting the degree the main objective? Will Graduate Schools look and see I took them ten years later at a CC and never applied them to a degree?

As for Graduate schools in mind I would love the program at FSU in MIS, but with a 2.0 GPA I have no shot. The online Masters in MIS at U or Arizona also looks nice, but it seems they don't accept credits for life experiences through ACE according to them which two of my credits might be from TESC, unless I can take something else to replace what's being used from my CCAF. As for other programs I'm not sure. Doesn't seem like a lot of options for us people who want a named University who had terrible years in school originally. I know have a degree will be beneficial, but my goal is eventual achieve a Masters in possibly MIS from a University, especially since my TESC degree won't have University next to it.

The FSU program requires a 3.0 in upper division coursework (assuming it's this program: Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MIS) ). In this case, I'm not sure how much your lower level credits will matter. It may not hurt to contact the adviser on their website and explain that you intend to apply after your undergraduate and ask them directly.

The Arizona program (https://msmis.eller.arizona.edu/admissions-requirements ) requires an undergrad GPA of 3.0 (total GPA). Their acceptance of ACE credits will not matter, as these are only for undergraduate requirements. The only time this comes in to play really is when a course has prerequisite classes. Arizona seems to base these requirements on your professional resume, not your academic transcript (based on my brief read). Either way, it's only 2 additional classes, if you need them.

I wouldn't discount the degree from TESC. It will be as valid as any regionally accredited degree from a little known state college. I would take a very strategic approach to your GPA situation. If it were me, I would do the following actions:

1.) Retake the F/D classes at the original school you took them at and get a better grade.
2.) Take a few easy classes at the cheaper community colleges to boost my grade (if you're going for the Arizona Program).
3.) Take a few easy upper-level classes at university of North Dakota or other cheap 4 year independent learning program to boost my gpa (if going for FSU program).
4.) Call the two schools you intend to apply at, and ask for clarification on entrance requirements. Express your interest in attending post graduation, and ask their advice. This will give you a good feel for the customer service provided at each program as well.

**EDIT** Uexcel's may be another possible option for boosting GPA, as Excelsior assigns grades to these.

That is correct you will not have a GPA from TESC if you take no classes there.
Currently studying for: Still deciding.
