TESU Second degree
#1
Hi everyone,

Looking towards starting a second bachelors degree because why not? Anyways have been talking with TESU admissions and wanted to see if anyone can give me insight or confirm that I don't need to take any additional courses at TESU and that I can take them all through Study.com and Sophia.

Below is the email from admissions counsler...

..."When you say RA do you mean residency requirement hours? If I am understanding correctly then it would be 15 hours or 5 courses.

According to your academic program you have 28 hours, roughly 9 courses, so you are good.

Additionally please note if you are thinking you would like to take standardized exams, CLEP, DSST, TCEP, the exams go toward degree requirements they do NOT count toward residency requirements. ..."

Thank you in advance !

Your first degree is not from TESU, yes?

At least 30 credits need to be RA. If your degree is from UMPI or WGU or some other school, this is met.

If you take fewer than 15 credits of TESU courses, you have to pay the residency waiver fee. (Note: credit requirements are different for military students.)

If you are getting a second Bachelor's from TESU after getting a degree elsewhere, paying the residency waiver fee + capstone is going to be marginally cheaper than a flat-rate 15-credit term.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

That is correct! My first is not from TESU, and that's great because that's the route I was considering taking. thank you!

@jakill2, You've got the BSLA from Excelsior and now you're looking at TESU for a BSBA? Hold that thought... I revisited my last message to you in your other thread. You're overpaying for TESU as it doesn't really provide anything over the HAU MBA I recommended, at the end of the day, the MBA will trump the BSBA any day of the week, plus you save money for buying me Starbucks coffee and many more slices of Pizza... Oh, that was just me thinking out loud, I mean, whatever you want to use that extra cash for...

lol I did get my BSLA from Excelsior and I am currently working towards a masters at SNHU at this time which my employer is paying for completely. The bachelors from TESU is not entirely necessary... but I kind of like that idea of having another degree to hang up on the wall and it looks good for my annual pay raise and bonus... all of which we can use to put towards much more pizza and starbucks haha.

SNHU Masters? Cool, which one? I think that should be sufficient for the year, unless you have more than the average $5K in tuition assistance or reimbursement! I would do something different if at all possible, if you're really wanting to do the TESU BA, do a double degree! You know, something like the BACS/BS CIS option or similar... You can stack that with the additional Associates and Cert freebies too!

There is no better and more efficient way than to do a master's along with a TESU 2nd degree! All your graduate credits can be used to fulfil the second TESU degree and you can potentially end up just needing the Capstone and residency waiver. My employer does not reimburse residency waiver but since everything else is paid for I don't mind paying the waiver out of my own pocket

Or you can do the reverse, if you're going the second degree route at TESU, you can do the Bachelors to Masters option and get Masters level credit for cost of Bachelors level classes. Thus, you can bring these credits to SNHU, depending on the degree, the two easiest is the MALS and the MBA/MSM options, so it really depends what the OP wants to do... I would give it a thought before deciding though...
