TESU BS Physics+Chemistry waiver

Many of the BS degrees at TESU require students to complete either Physics I&II or Chemistry I&II (with labs). In past years, degreeforum members have reported that they were able to obtain a waiver from the school dean to take Physics I and Chemistry I to fulfill the requirement. Has anyone pursued such a waiver recently, and what were your results? I'm looking to do that for BSIT/BSTS.

I was wondering about this myself. I can see them wanting you to have a solid scientific basis for a BS degree, but requiring Physics 1 and 2 or Chemistry 1 and 2 for a BSBA is a bit strict.

This is not a requirement for the BSBA.  It's only a requirement for BS degrees that come from the School of Applied Science and Technology.

There had been a few historical posts from people who reported that they planned to take Chemistry I and Physics I - however, I don't recall anyone ever confirming it worked.  At that time it was not explicitly listed in the TESU degree program that it required a I & II (it read more that you could mix/match the level I options), but that has since changed - it is now made very clear that it will require a level I then a level II of Chemistry or Physics science with lab.  New Mexico Jr College is normally the recommended option for both those I & II courses (very affordable those NM CCs no matter where you live).

Don't you have to take Chem I & II, or Physics I & II?

No, I wanted to be very sure about that detail so I got approval (in writing) to do 1 and 1 of each from the department head. I'm not sure if it's an exception or not. I did already have other 4cr Science/Labs I transferred in from a B/M University plus a bunch of other Science courses so maybe that's why they approved the request? I have no idea.

Has anything changed since then in how TESU worded or applied the science requirement?

Your best bet is to continue with your current classes and also email the registrar at TESU to verify you can do the 1+1 instead of a particular natural science 1/2. I don't think there has been any changes, have you also tried doing the 'what if' option to see if your sciences came through?

And now in 2023 - https://web.archive.org/web/202306031600...rams/bs/it See change in Section II. Technical Studies (55 Credits) area, this is where they now 'spell it out' that the II with lab is required.

I haven't completed either physics or chemistry yet, so I can't use what-if to predict things. I'll probably just go ahead and ask for a waiver once advising makes some other changes to my degree programs. 
I just pulled up an old catalog from 2019 and compared it to the current one - they both use the exact same language. Both state that Physics I with Lab OR Chemistry I with Lab 4 AND Physics II with Lab OR Chemistry II with Lab 4 are required. Hopefully they haven't decided to stop giving out waivers to allow I from chem&physics. Interesting note, neither catalog specifies that both sciences must be from the same field.

I'm not seeing what's different. The requirements table is exactly the same on the 2020 and 2023 links.
