TESC bachelor's with no transfer credits? Plan? Help!
#1
Hi All,

My apologies if this question is redundant. I've been lurking for a while and out of desperation am now posting this question. Here goes:

Has anyone (or does anyone know a way that I can?) completely tested out for their Bachelors of Arts (in Psych/Art/or Philosophy or at TESC with no college transcript for transfer?) It seems most people have college credits to apply to the degree beforehand and I lack that. In short, both of my parents passed during my first year of college a few years ago and I flunked out before the second semester of Freshman year. I have no credits to transfer. I'm trying to start over now.

Where do I begin? Which CLEP (or test in general) do I take first? I am sorry in advance for a seemingly lazy question, but I'm surprisingly overwhelmed with the abundance of information and "plans" on the appropriate approaches to attaining the degree, and also a little lost because none of these venues I've found seem to be utilized by people who are starting completely from scratch like myself.

I really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance so much.

Danielle

You can't test out of an art or philosophy degree, but you can test out of humanities, social science, and psychology. I'll post these plans. If someone doesn't beat me to it, I'll come back to explain more about the general education requirements.

At this point, you have a blank slate so any CLEP is a good start. Most people start with Analyzing and Interpreting Literature because it requires very little preparation. With average reading comprehension most people are able to pass it.

I can't speak for everyone, but I enjoy building spreadsheets to plan my degree. I have planned a couple dozen even though most are passing thoughts. I would suggest jumping onto google drive and start building a spreadsheet based on the degree you want to complete at TESC. Input all of the requirements and start plugging in CLEP and DSST exams that you believe meet each requirement. As you progress through your spreadsheet, we can help guide you toward exams that meet specific requirements. Just don't get so hung up on planning that you neglect studying for your next exam.

If there are subjects that intimidate you, I would suggest knocking them out as soon as possible. For many people, math is a hurdle and getting it out of the way eliminates stress. Aleks is a good way to meet math requirements for only $20 per month.

Don't worry about applying to a college yet. Just start knocking out exams. When you are ready to apply, you can request transcripts from each of the exam companies.

Here is a spreadsheet to get you started. You can fill in the various areas using Sanatone's plan.

It is probably a good idea to copy and paste a personal copy so that you have it.

UptonSinclair and Sanatone: You both are wonderful. Thank you SO much for the guidance. Means more than I can say.

Sanatone - Duly noted re: Art degree! Upton - Already copied and pasted your spreadsheet (brilliant idea). Thank you again.

I'm also appreciative. Sanantone has been extremely helpful through this process. I do have a question regarding Sanantone's Social Science BA plan. It appears there are duplicates of classes listed with different test options. Is this just a list of all the possible options or a plan of what Sanantone actually did?

I'm just confused as to which test I should take as I also am beginning with zero credits.

The plan is not the plan I used. I had a lot of transfer credits. The test out plan I linked to lists almost all of the exam options. The guidelines you need to follow are at the topic. The reason why I list all exam options is because everyone is different. Some people might want to focus on taking courses in sociology and psychology while others will want to take courses in history and political science. Also, some people have issues with not being close to certain test centers, or they want to avoid Straighterline.

Thanks Sanantone! This makes a lot of sense.

I also made a google doc based on the info from Sanantone's Bachelor of Arts - Social Science plan:

This was really helpful! I've read tidbits on TESU requirement changes? Do you know if this plan still applies for obtaining a BA in Social Science, in 2020?

Nope. This thread is old.

Tesu no longer offers BA in social science. It is replaced with ba liberal studies social sciences concentration.
