TESC Tech Writing and Penn Foster Business/Tech Writing
#1
Can anyone tell me if Penn Foster Business and Tech Writing thru ACE will satisfy the requirement of TESC Tech Writing?

If you are referring to the Managerial \ Business Communications requirement under BSBA Gen Ed (B) then yes Penn Foster Business & Tech Writing does satisfy the requirement.

If this is another program and Technical Writing is required I would imagine you could just take the DSST Technical Writing exam it is cheaper. If you are not able to take a DSST just call an advisor to see if they will approve the Penn Foster course. I cannot see it being a problem.

FYI, Penn Foster course transcribes as ENG216 and DSST Tech Writing exam transcribes as ENG201.

Hi KMM,

Unfortunately, no I do not. I have only investigated the courses I am interested in taking. The Penn Foster ACE list is posted on the forum http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...ve+Numbers this thread was from 2007 if you check on ACE you have a more updated listing. I can also send you my copy if you PM me your email. All you do is call or email advising with the ICS number and ask first it if would be accepted to your program and second, what TESC course would it substitute.

You can get a good idea by matching the course name, then description with the TESC course. I refer to the PLA database to find all the TESC courses in their database. Thomas Edison State College/ Search the Prior Learning Assessment Description Database

Take care.

thats super rad - thank you so much for that information.

That would be cool if they came out with a list showing all PF classes accepted by TESC and which TESC course they are accepted as.

i bet theres a couple courses out there nobody knows about that could satisfy some required "hard-to-get" TESC credits.

thanx again!

You're welcome. It seems from other threads that PF has been a work in progress. Besides remember these programs are uniquely individualized (DIAL) which for me means - know or have an idea of what you need prior to calling anyone or asking any questions. I know there is a standard but within the standard there are many roads you can take. Hope you get my meaning.

Does this mean that these courses do not overlap? I already have dsst technical writing, and I need to Business/Managerial Communications. I would take Penn Foster's course, but am afraid I'll loose credit for DSST exam. Has anyone done both of these?

No, they do not duplicate. I have both.
ENG 201 DSST Technical writing is listed under Section C. Humanities Electives
ENG 216 Penn Foster Business & Tech writing (actually transcribed as bus letter & rep writing) is listed under Section B. Business/Managerial Communications
