TESC Residency Requirement

Hi, does anyone know if TESC have a residency requirement for the BSBA in General Management?

Also I am Active Army, if that makes a difference.

NOTE: Students who select the Per Credit Tuition Plan with the intention of graduating from Thomas Edison State College have academic residency requirements of 12 credits for an associate degree and 24 credits for a bachelor’s degree. Thank you for the reply, but I was talking about Residency in terms of credits, not in as living in NJ, if I am reading that right my military status counts me as resident of NJ for tuition purpose. But thank you for taking your time to look that up for me.

Lets say I paid the in state tuition and tested out of all the requirements. What would be my final costs for my degree, not including exam fees, just the fees associated with the degree/enrollment. Does any one know or have a ballpark figure on what that would be?

You would be covered under the MDCP, or something similar: Thomas Edison State College: Flexible, online degrees and certificates for active duty service members

Here's a breakdown as well of what you would get: Admission Requirements

As an AD member myself, it capped tuition at the maximum TA limit of $250 per credit (not aware if it's the same for NJ residents).

This would also require you to complete 24 credits for residency requirements for any bachelor's degree.

If you decide to test out completely, then the cost would be roughly $70 (application fee) + $896 ($112 [guessing on the price, it's been a while] per 3-credit TECEP, times 8, also meeting the residency requirements in the process) + cost of books and other supplies. The rest of the 112 credits you can technically fill up for free with CLEP/DSST as a military member + any accredited training you may have received (both of which I've done in completing my bachelor's with TESC).

At least ~$1000, without the books/supplies. The cost of a TECEP includes proctoring fee through ProctorU, and I'm not aware of TESC having any other fees in my time with them (since Nov 2013).

And if I went a different route that didn't require me to complete 24 credits? My current plan would had put me at 9 credits through TECEP, I guess I could take some more TECEPS, but they might be duplicates of dssts and Cleps I already passed, like eng comp, microeconomics.

You would have to argue your residency issue through TESC first (as there is an enrollment plan to bypass the residency requirement, but it's considerably more expensive this way).

If you don't mind, I recommend posting your current degree plan (minus any personal info) so we can look at it and recommend things. TESC has a lot of business TECEPs, which should hopefully free you to pursue testing out of the rest of the degree, which is pretty generous (I tested out of both economics courses, and decided to take the Eng Comp II class to work on my writing, which I now regret).

I currently have 6 TECEPs and 3 classes I've taken for my General Management degree, and I can offer you insight on them as needed, but knowing where you're at would help.

To enroll under the Enrolled Options plan as a NJ resident would be $1816 (including the tech services fee). http://www.tesc.edu/tuition/Enrolled-Options-Plan.cfm Then if you tested out of everything, you'd need to pay the graduation fee which is about $500. So that works out to about $2316. The Per Credit plan, with the 8 TECEPS, is obviously cheaper, but you'd need to figure in the time to take those TECEPs and where they'd fit.

When I did TESC through the Air Force, I used the MCDP (it was 18 credits residency at the time). I believe I made it to 12, but needed to rush my completion. I switched to enrolled and had the GI Bill pay the $1800 (nj resident/military rate) enrollment fee. But what I understand now, is that the VA no longer allows you to do this and you MUST you the per credit option.

So if you are using TA as your sole funding source, you have two options, do the per credit through the MDCP and complete 24 TESC credits, or do the enrolled option and pay the enrollment fee yourself out of pocket if you do less than 24 credits. You need to balance your needs of time vs cost, the choice is yours and yours alone. Good luck!
