TESC- Marketing BSBA/General Management/ Capstone
#1
I got an email from a friend few days ago in which he asked me:

Quote:I am considering TESC degree without capstone it is called gen management? Right? If I take more Marketing courses, is it also called Gen management or Gen management- Marketing? Is that what is written on the degree?

My response to him was:

Quote:I am sorry if I have confused you in the past. I guess all TESC BSBA require a capstone but the General Management degree capstone can be tested out of. You can use Penn Foster Strategic Management course instead of taking the class at TESC. You can also use TECEP instead of taking class. I think you can also transfer the capstone to a marketing degree. Honesty, I don't know much about other TESC degree since I am not interested in anything outside Gen Mgt.

Yes you can take more marketing course as your area of specialization and I think your diploma will have BSBA Gen Management while your transcript will state your specialization- I guess. But you can get a BSBA Marketing degree BSBA in Marketing Degree Program

Now the problem is that, I had (sometimes in the past) told him that only the BSBA Gen Management does not require a capstone. That was when I was still in the dark as to how things work. Even now, I still feel lost in many areas. Regarding his questions, can someone please help answer them so I could relay the answers to him. He is from the Middle East and still trying to decide between TESC and Excelsior. Thanks

The BSBA degree requires the capstone regardless of the area of specialization (ie general mgmt, HR/OM, marketing, operations mgmt, etc) see list below. The degree reads Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, the transcript will list the specialization/area of study. In your friends case, it would list Marketing on his transcript. My transcript states General Management, others Computer Information Systems or Finance. Hope this explains the concept.

We are just lucky they offer the capstone Strategic Management (previously titled Business Policy) in the TECEP format. Well truthfully the exam is not easy, so lucky is subjective. The actual course at TESC, I've been told and have seen the assignments from students, is brutal. So if a student does not want to chance the exam, definitely take advantage of the Penn Foster course while available. Note the Penn Foster course is relatively new. Prior to its existence most suffered the TECEP or the actual course. Some were also able to find an online course at other 4yr universities and transfer it in.

Marketing is a great degree and has quite a few TECEP options for the area of study. (I already verified Penn Foster courses listed were credit recommended by ACE.)

TESC Course/Equivalency No - Course Description - (Alt Vendor/Course No)
COM210 Public Relations Thought & Practice - TECEP
MAR321 Marketing Communications - TECEP
MAR322 Sales Management - TECEP
MAR323 Advertising - TECEP
MAR351 Consumer Behavior - (Penn Foster/MKT320)
MAR411 Marketing Research (required) - (Penn Foster/MKT260)*
Covers 18 Marketing credits in area of study.

Additional TECEP choices. Need 24 cr for residency.
BUS421 Strategic Management - TECEP
ENG201 Technical Writing - TECEP
CIS107 Computer Concepts & Applications - TECEP
ENC101 English Composition I - TECEP
ENC102 English Composition II - TECEP
MAT105 Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics - TECEP
BUS311 Business in Society - TECEP

Additional Penn Foster Marketing course
REM301 Retail Management - (Penn Foster/MKT340)

Wishing your friend good luck!

*Best to complete the Statistics course prior to taking Marketing Research.

Happy to help! Before going into clinical research and medical affairs, I spent the first 8 yrs of my business career in the new products and marketing departments. The field will always remain near and dear to my heart. It was a fun time, much excitement and great Perks! My then spouse really enjoyed all the partying, not to mention the complimentary sports tickets. Big Grin

I completed a test out plan for the BSBA in Marketing, but Bricabrac covered the options for the specialization. I guess I should go in and add Penn Foster's Consumer Behavior.
