TESC Evaluation
#1
Hello everyone!

I have been a longtime lurker here (over a few accounts) and I feel like I needed to finally finish my degree. I had an evaluation done at COSC and TESC and it looks like TESC has come out ahead. I will list below what my evaluation was; I am looking for some insight into what I can test out of. If the test is very hard, I may just end up taking the class. The only classes i don't have listed on here are an international relations course i am finishing and an upper level intelligence course both through AMU. I am also contemplating going for my AS though TESC as well as it only one more class that I think I need for the BS anyways. I would also like to CLEP/DSST/TECE/SL as many requirements as possible. Thank you very much in advance for the help!

P.S. I am currently enrolled under their military program; does anyone have anything good or bad to say about it?

Here is something to get you started. The Intel course you're taking now will probably go into free electives and push out some of your other free electives. Is there another degree that can utilize all your credits better, maybe a military related degree (http://www.tesc.edu/watson/bs/Homeland-Security.cfm)?

I included TECEPS and a TESC course so you can meet the military "residency". If you are in a rush, you can incorporate more CBEs and pay TESC the enrollment fee. I haven't checked the recent rate, but the resident/military rate was about $1,800 last year. I don't really recommend doing the enrolled option, I think it's better to do the MDCP and take TECEPs and utilize TA in addition.

Hi there Prloko,

Thanks for the detailed response! It seems like that have a lot of “residency” requirement for the MDCP, 21 (including the capstone) which I can hopefully just do through the TECEPS. Unfortunately I have used up all of my TA for this year and I will be using my GI Bill (I am too broke to pay out of pocket). It seems the TECEPs are not the easiest tests to pass out there and it seems a bit intimidating. On a good note I decided to the Intro to World Religions DSST last night and passed it this morning with a 444! Woo.

On another note I am looking into taking Principles of Supervision, Fundamentals of Counseling since they have a reputation for being relatively easy. I just need to figure out if they fit into my degree plan.

That would be awesome if you can send it my way!

Can the TEEX credits be applied to "Intellectual and Practical Skills" or the gen ed electives?
#6
If CLEP and DSST exams are still free, who cares if they fit into your degree. Take as many as you can get. You never know when they might apply to a future degree plan.

Below are my recommendations including TESC courses/TECEP/epacks to meet residency.

Epacks, if you are not aware, are a sort of exam-course hybrid. They are great because you are given access to multiple choice quizzes which you use to create a study guide. Each chapter of the book has a corresponding quiz. If you run through each quiz multiple times (6-8) until you are presented with all the questions you are covered for the comprehensive exam. It is the same as using the flashcards for CLEP/DSST exams except the quizzes are designed using the textbook. I used the quizzes and read the book chapter summaries and scored quite well on the industrial psychology exam.

Intellectual and Practical Skills:
ENC-102 English Composition II (TECEP or course)
MAT-105 Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics (TECEP or course)

Personal & Social Responsiblity:
Ethical Leadership: PHI-287 Ethics in America DSST
Diversity: SOC-101 Intro to Sociology CLEP or (TECEP or ePack)
Diversity Elective: SOC-210 Marriage and the Family (TECEP or ePack)

General Education:

Social Science Area of Study (additional UL options):
HIS-351 A History of the Vietnam War DSST

PSY-363* Industrial Psychology (ePack)

* A nice complement to the Org Behavior exam; material overlap.

If you are using your GI Bill, VA will force you to use the MDCP which means doing TESC courses (OL, TECEP, etc.). Good on you to knock out Religions, that's an easy and fun test to study for.

TECEPs aren't too bad. There has not been any real proof provided that these exams are "hard", there just isn't much posted on them yet since people didn't really use them much until TESC started the Per credit plan. Most TECEPS require a 60 to pass, so they aren't that difficult. The biggest complaint you get is that people get upset that they have to read a textbook to pass a college exam. Don't let that discourage you. 6 months on a ship gives a LOT of time to read Tongue

As asked, I'm attaching my template (below). Go ahead and update as you see fit.

One person I was helping actually told me someone out there actually charges $300 to do what we do here free. So I'm going to start charging too, but not money. For my help, you have to promise me that when you complete your program (or while you're completing it), you have to provide 40 posts helping other members. An other option is you'll give me your word that you will help other service members in your unit do the same. In other words, stick around and pay it forward Smile

Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back. I have been working a crazy schedule, finishing classes and studying for more CBTs. So a new update since my last post I have completed:

Intro to Computers DSST
History of Vietnam DSST
International Relation class through AMU (A!)
Laws and Ethics in Intelligence (A as well!)
I am currently studying for the US History II CLEP and then possibly the Biology CLEP since that is 6 credits. As mentioned in a post blow I will be paying the enrollment to circumvent the residency requirement. I am also torn between the LA and the SS BA. It’s just going to be which one I can get done faster by the looks of it. Thank you everyone that has been helping me!

I know what you mean….I’m going to be taking as many of them as I can without getting burnt out that is why I would like to have some semblance of which order I will be doing them in to finish my degree at the quickest time.

Thanks for your response and help, its appreciated! I came to the conclusion that I won’t need the residency requirement and I am going to try and do these classes as fast as possible and pay the enrollment out of pocket. I think that I might end up taking a few of the TECEP or Epak since they seem almost similar when it comes to studying for the test. Like you said, study the chapter summaries, go over prior quizzes, hope for the best! 

Prloko Wrote:If you are using your GI Bill, VA will force you to use the MDCP which means doing TESC courses (OL, TECEP, etc.).

Prloko, thank you very much for all of the help!

Hopefully I will never have to go on a ship (gotta love ground intel), that just seems awful! Haha I will help as many people as I can with what current information that I can! Hopefully by the end of this I will be useful enough to others that I may impart some knowledge or wisdom ton them.

Welcome back, congrats on knocking out a bunch of exams. Gaining momentum sometimes is the hardest part and you seem to be excelling.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.
