TESC BSBA Course Help!
#1
Finally completed my TESC academic evaluation yesterday and I have sourced all courses except Principles of Marketing. I'm looking to complete it in an Independent Study format, like TOMORROW (pretty fast ::grins:Smile. I've taken over a dozen Penn Foster College courses and missed the ACE deadline for Marketing. They offer MKT310 Advertising Principles. Would this transfer to TESC in place of Principles of Marketing? Also would Math for Business and Finance @ PF transfer in as the BSBA Math Requirement for Quantitative Business Analysis? If not, I'll settle for ALEKS to fill the void.

My main concern is the marketing course. I plan to apply for the October 1st graduation so taking these courses are top priority for me. I appreciate all the information obtained so far from the forum.

Thanks You in Advance!

CLEP Intro Marketing satisfies TESC's Principles of Marketing requirement, and is generally considered one of the easiest tests. It is one of, if not the least expensive and fastest means to complete that course slot. InstantCert's study cards are ample prep, particularly if you already have the other business and economics courses upon which to build. Give it a couple solid days of studying to be certain, sit the exam, TESC will have the transcript in about a week, and you'll be ready to send your graduation application.

CLEP marketing is one of the easiest tests out there. Go get the REA book and read it. Then do the practice tests and you will be fine. I spent about 8 hours preparing for this test but I do have business experience.

Thanks! I ordered a marketing text and an REA Principles of Marketing (2005) text. I'll study for two weeks and take the test. With the REA Marketing Book should cover to cover review and tests be enough? I hoping to use the Basic Marketing Text for supplement only. ::cross fingers;:

Question for PF types here. I was wondering. I understand their tuition, like up to 5 courses for tution of roughly 1000 bucks. Can you pick and chose which courses you want to take, for ACE applications versus chosing a degree plan? Like if I need some courses that would satisfy requirements for TESC, you just chose the courses you wish to take?

You really don't need to study for two weeks... I took that test with about 4 hours of study.

For single courses, it's $70 per credit hour. You have to call the Workforce Development Center or whatever it's called to purchase single courses that aren't listed here.

Wow, I didn't know they did this. That is kick butt! Funny, when I talked to the guy, I mentioned individual courses and he said NOT. Maybe he didn't know I meant for transfer....but great link and great tip. You guys/gals have given me great tips. This may be a great way to take a course, at a self pace doable deal for me. I don't know if they do statistics, I'm going to try Aleks and straighterline, but would consider PF if things get hairy for me do to time restraints.

A note about PF - while their self-paced course options are a great solution for most of us, their customer service group is abysmal. If they give you any answer, it will probably be wrong. Do the research on their website and through ACE, and be very specific about the course you want when you call. In addition to those courses listed in the link, you can take any course listed on degree program lists (there are a lot more available than those lists) as individual courses without enrolling for that degree. Just get the specific name and ask for Workforce Development for individual course registration.

I was going to take a third course from them, but no one - including an "instructor" for the course - could tell me whether or not the course required a proctored exam or scheduled call sessions (I thought I heard someone here say there was, so I wanted to check before committing to a timeline that would mess up my timing plan). They just read the one-paragraph description posted on the website and could give no other information. If it is not available through their public information on the website, your next best resource for information on a course is here. Their people will probably not have a clue.

Still...they are a great solution to knock out some courses. I still recommend Financial Management for FIN-301 to anyone that asks and those that don't. (There, I did it again!)

If you complain on a public forum, sometimes you'll get an answer. I asked through email if their computer programs cover Windows Vista or 7 and I got a very vague answer. So I griped about this on another elearning website and a Penn Foster representative came and answered my question on the forum. Apparently, Penn Foster did not update its course descriptions. At least I know they now teach up to Windows 7 instead of Windows XP, but I never got an answer on whether they'll cover anything newer than Windows 2000 Server. I guess not since they updated everything else. It's probably why their technology courses are no longer ACE-approved.
