TECEP Networking Feedback?
#11
I wrote this TECEP about 6 months ago. I paid the fee and realized it didn't fit into my degree plan. Since I couldn't get a refund I figured I may as well write it, I don't know much about networking and just did a quick one hour skim of the textbook before writing. I failed, but just barely, I think I got 68% and a 70% was a pass.

You should be fine if you've been studying for a while. Good Luck.

Thanks john van. It's been three weeks of 2-3 hours per day so I hope I'm ready by now. I'll update this thread after I take it today.

EDIT: I had to reschedule for tomorrow because I lost my wallet and my gov't ID. *Sigh*

Okay, test wasn't sooooo bad. I felt like I knew about 3/4 of the multiple choice questions, and also felt somewhat confident in the three essays. I feel pretty okay about it, but I will feel better once I receive my grade.

As others have said, it's straight out of the textbook.

To achieve my level of comfort with this topic, I ran through the textbook twice, and then looked at the chapter questions a 3rd time.

So, I failed my TECEP with a 62%... It's the last course I need to fulfill my area of study. It needs to be UL credit. I already took CSU Global Info Systems Analysis and Design, Cloud Computing, MIS and Design (which they will not give me credit for), SL C++, DSST MIS, and TEEX courses.

What other options do I have to fulfill the remainder of the UL CIS credit, besides waiting 3 months to retake this TECEP?

There's the DSST Cybersecurity, but from what I can tell, it is not worth it due to the rigor of the subject (apparently folks with IT experience have struggled to pass this DSST, even with studying). I'm afraid my only two options are to hope that once my CSU transcript comes in that they automaticaly give me credit for the MIS course, or to simply retake this TECEP.

EDIT: My essay portion has yet to be graded, so the 62% is based off the MC portion, with a max possible grade of 70% coming from the MC portion. I'm fairly certain I passed in that case.

My husband passed the Cybersecurity DSST recently, he said it was not that hard - but he does it for a living. So it's not impossible to pass it. If that's the last thing you need to take, you should give it a shot.

See my edit. I didn't fail - the grade excluded the essay portion which has yet to be graded. Thanks for the reply, however.

besides waiting 3 months to retake this TECEP.

Is there a 3 month waiting period before you can reattempt?

Apparently this is no longer true. From my help ticket with academic advisement... "If you happen to have failed the TECEP attempt for CMP-354, Network Technology, you may attempt it again in a future term. There is no waiting period to repeat the attempt, but you may only try to pass the exam twice. This option is only offered as a TECEP exam or online course."

I then asked how to re-attempt it (either schedule a second proctored session with ProctorU vs. sign-up for another term ... I'd imagine it's the latter due to " you may attempt it again in a future term") but since I unofficially passed, I closed the ticket as I only have to take two or three CLEPs/DSSTs until I'm done with my degree.

As one final update, I passed with a 92%. I got 62/70 for the MC and 30/30 for the essays.

To pass the TECEP, simply follow the test guide provided by TESC to figure which chapters you need to study (pretty much all of them, except for sections of chapters 6 and 12). Read through the book, take notes for the particularly important topics (OSI model, especially), and use the in-chapter review questions plus the chapter tests to solidify the knowledge. Repeat once or twice more and you'll be solid. Also, they added stuff about cloud computing as mentioned in the TESC official study guide, so it wouldn't hurt to know about that.

Why won't they give you credit for the CSU Global Info Sys., Cloud Computing, MIS and Design?
